replacing parts

can anyone tell me what it takes to get the lock nut off of the center clutch it says that you have to have a special tool to hold it still but i know that some of you have found another way to do this. Im new to working ona bike engine but have worked on cars for years and years so i have the skills to do it just need some tips on this one thanks to all in advance

Motion Pro makes a clutch tool for about 20 to 30 bucks. they work great.
