no real difference between the two...everything changed on the 06. try gettin an 06 stator after you buy the 04 or 05...u will need it.
What is the story on the stators? I will probably be getting the bike today- too good of a deal to pass up. I will be garaging the 1000 next to my 929 which will is up for sale. Anyone know anyone looking for a pretty clean and nicely modded 929, let me know!

sorry, but the 04/05's and the 06/07's use the SAME part number for the stator. the only real dif from 04/05 to 06/07 is the plastics (color/location), weight, and the 06/07 gets a few more ponies, 04/05 has a 41t rear sprocket, the 06/07 come with a 42t rear sprocket, 04/05 have 310mm rotors, 06/07 have 320mm rotors, all/most parts from 04/05 will bolt on to 06/07 and vice versa. i have a ton of 06/07 parts on my 04.

Make sure you do not waste your money on the 2004-2005 bike. Well unless you are into pushing the thing. They are great for a workout. Also heard the 2007 has a huge gas tank defect. Best to stear clear of Honda altogether. Btw I unfortunately own the 2004 which I push around when it's not in the shop. It's also bone stock. Ex Lifelong Honda Rider!

blah, bs. i own an 04. currently at 10000+ miles. never had any issue at all. even track the thing. ill always own a honda. and so what if the 07 has a tank weld issue. what manufacturer doesnt have a glitch. look at the R1's, they had an electricle issue: wire harness ran improperly and when turning stop to stop, it would cut into the harness), as well as a couple more recalls.

ill always own a honda. this is my 2nd problem free honda to date.

I love my 06 and I know lots of people that love their 04-05. Sounds like your just upset that you didn't make use of the warrenty or maybe you didn't realize how inexpensive a stator is.

As for the "huge" gas tak defect- I have only heard of one case. I am sure there are more, but it doesn't seem to be a huge problem; otherwise, we would be reading a lot more about it in magazines and forums. Remember Kawi's 05 wheel recall? I would much rather have a problem with my stator!

I run the same lap times on the 05 and 06 so only real difference is notice is color, and rear end kicks out more under hard bracking on the 06. The average street ride would not know the different.
