What are the differences ?
I was wanting to know the differences between the exhaust headers for the different years of the F3. I saw that on my 98 there are small tubes about 8" to 10" from exhuast ports that connect between the 1st and 2nd cylinder and then between cylinder 3 and 4. Does anyone know if all the F3's were like this, and what are they for ? My wifes 97 has the full V&H system, which doesn't have that, so I don't now if the 97 had it or not.
Bill I have the little connecting pipes too .. they were not present on my first CBR600F2 .. I've learned that they are some kind of balancing pipes, equalising the back pressure between all four cylinders ... it probably helps with midrange pick up as these later F3s go such much better than ealier incarnations
I've come to trust Honda's design on exhausts because an old CB250N I once owned had a balance box that rusted out, when replaced with an after maket item all performance was lost ... went out and bought an original and the power was good again :-)

As far as I know the 97-98 are the same, I suspect your wife's machine has had a whole new system put on.
