Default 06-07 differences

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum but not new to Honda's. I have had several over the years and I sold my 87 Honda Hurricaine 1000 last year which I bought new. It was a great bike and was very good to me over the years. I replaced it with a 06 Ducati 800SS that I am going to trade or sell to get adifferent sport bike.

I have 2 other BMW's andhave been looking atused BMW BCR or prep models for years "04-05". I havenow seen some great prices on the 06-07 CBR 1000RR model. My local dealer has 2 06's which would make a trade (if I don't sell the Ducati first) simple as there are no BMW dealers close. This makes me think I could get another "new Honda" at a good price with warranty.

What are the differences in the 06-07 CBR 1000 models. Are there any running issuses between the 2? Surging, hesitaton, gearing way to high to take off from a stop, or anything which is highly recomended to make the bike work good. I read about power commander's and things to control the mapping. Do they need this or a special exhaust to make themrun right.

Are either of these bike just great right out of the box? My Hurricaine was completly stock and ran perfect. No ruuning issues, no returning to the dealer for warranty work, services or anything. I did all my own mechanical work.

Are the newer ones hard to work on? The BMW's are pretty easy. I have heard that the valves use the bucket and shim style adjustment. I have never done this on one of these and wonder how hard it would be. Does it take allot of time, and do you need allot of expensive tools and things? I have read about smelling like exhaust after you ride them?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts on any problems with them.

The 06 and 07 are the same except for some color changes (including the swingarm). I have an 06 that is 13 months old and I have almost 12,000 miles on it. No issues at all! This bike is perfect.

The only performance mod I have made is an aftermarket exhaust. I have never smelled like exhaust, nor has my wife ever said anything to that effect. There is a small surge of power in the lower RPM's of first gear, but it isn't enough to bother me or effect my daily driving. It is an easy fix by regearing your sprocket (i.e. 1 down in front)

The bike is easy to work on. I have done all but my initial oil change. Other than that, I haven't needed to work on my bike. The valve adjustment isn't due until 16,000 miles- even then I have heard that no adjustments were needed for some people who own these bikes.

The BMW will be more comfortable, but the CBR will perform a LOT better. it weighs less, has more power and is forgving. In my opinion- it is the perfect bike.

I just bought an '06 and I must say that this bike is very easy to move around. The speed arrives after about 5000rpm's so it's managable, but still demands respect. Going from a 600RR to a 1000RR is not that big of a deal, at least to me but I put about 7100 miles on my old bike before I traded it in. Find an '06 for less money if you can because the undertail exhuast will be a thing of the past...
