I don’t have the motor torn down enough to check on the rod bearings/journals, a couple exhaust valves have a leak, one valve on cylinder 2 and 3 from what I saw.
If bores are Ok, then it's not piston-slap noise you're hearing. How do rod-bearings and crank-journals look? Are any of valves not fully closed when cams not pushing on them? Most likely it was cam-chain & adjuster making those noises.
Hey Danno, I apologize about reawakening this tread after a while, but I had an idea I was curious about. Way back when I checked the cylinder walls they honestly didn’t look to terrible, I’ll attach an image for you to take a look at if you’d like. I also ended up doing a compression test and it was horrible, sub 100s across the board. I soon realized that a few exhaust valves had a pretty bad leak, I didn’t think much of it at the time, I’m going to have a buddy of mine pull a bit more of the bottom end off to check the bearings/oil for shavings. Do you think possibly it could’ve just been valve tap? Because the leak seemed pretty bad, filled the valve pit with water and two of the four cylinders had leaked it all out within an hour. Namely out of their exhaust ports. Once again thank y’all for the help, I know it’s been quite some time since I last responded but I’m trying to get this thing done.
