Makes a big difference in acceleration and speed when the ignition is advancing correctly. In 20 years, mine has gone bad twice. I think the engine heat gets to it.
Hi Slowpoke -
I'm interested in your experience here... I never thought of the pulse generator going faulty (except for going open circuit and not working at all). What symptoms were you getting to realise you had to check the unit? A lesson for us all...

I decided to clean the carburators. This is what i found when i opened the first carb!
It's somekind of foam or something.. no idea how that get in there. But it looks like it has been there for a while. Two next carbs were clean but then the 4th had that same $hit inside.

Isn't that just the trap to catch oil, water vapour so it can drain out via the overflow pipe #19....

Rip all the old foam out and throw it away - my bike has never had a filter in that little box in at least the last 6 years. You don't need it.
Now maybe your bike will run right !
(I wonder where else that foam could have gone........)

Wow! Good thing you got that foam out of your carbs! I can see that being a problem... lol..
Everything else looks pretty normal, though.
RIP spongebob..... 6/5/2010.

It's pictures like that that scare the heck out of me. Secret innards, disintegrating invisibly. It nags at my preferred image of my bike as absolute perfection through and through.
