The first thing I would check is the ignition timing. If the timing mark is on the "T" mark at idle, and stays there when reving the engine, your pulse generator needs to be replaced. $50 bucks for a new one, and a simple replacement job. Makes a big difference in acceleration and speed when the ignition is advancing correctly. In 20 years, mine has gone bad twice. I think the engine heat gets to it.
I'm interested in your experience here... I never thought of the pulse generator going faulty (except for going open circuit and not working at all). What symptoms were you getting to realise you had to check the unit? A lesson for us all...

I decided to clean the carburators. This is what i found when i opened the first carb!
It's somekind of foam or something.. no idea how that get in there. But it looks like it has been there for a while. Two next carbs were clean but then the 4th had that same $hit inside.

Isn't that just the trap to catch oil, water vapour so it can drain out via the overflow pipe #19....
