Buddy ..........to me it sounds like the starter clutch is completely ....done . kaput farked

as for fighter style ............. well if you have toooooo

If it didn't have a starter solenoid how did the starter get to engage ? Also check the starter is engaging the starter clutch (NOT the damper) that's a different thing. Could be the primary chain has gone - doubt it though. Pull the stator/alternator out and let us know what you find, once you've refitted the solenoid. Start with the easy bits first...

so,I followed stu's directions ,and there is no chain to be found? I guess its somewhere down in the crank case, the starter was loose an the alternator was too and the alt and dampner slid out in one piece so I guess someone has been in here before.....damnit...

heres a pic of the progress....the alt came out just like you see no prying or nothing just removed the bolts and out it came ,I felt around down by the lower chain sprocket and cant find anything...and does the writing on the block mean anything to anyone?

Sorry no idea on the markings. Someone sold you a load of work - hope it wasn't a friend. See further comments in your new thread.
