Mine is a 1996 with 75,000km.

No problems with the Cam Chain Tensioner yet. Carbies are in need of a complete overhall.

I usually get 5,000km & 6,000km out of my tyres. I'm running Pilot Powers.

the bike I'm looking at is an 88 and I didn't ask if it flipped the odometer, but it reads 36000 KM, will be asking about the cam chain tensioner for sure... I've had 2 other honda bikes and they both had cam chain problems as well.. what's up with that? it was a 1972 CT70, which landed the exhaust valve in the piston, and then i had a 1980 185XL which the CCT broke, cam chain in 3 pieces, and bent my valve, so I fixed it up, straightened the valve in a vice (yup) and threw it back together... ran fine for a long time after that

Edit (dystypia removal)

i don't much about its history , but i think most of the miles are 1/4 miles at the track...

I bought mine with 68, 000 and in good condition. It runs great and I love it. It rides like a warthog!! Tuff in the turns.

80,000 runs at the track? 20k for a 15 year old bike is great. Is it the gray one or red, white and blue?

CBRrider1991,
I think you win the prize for resurrecting the oldest thread ever...

I'm just kidding, bud.

Welcome to the CBRForums. The ticking noise on startup is probably just what the previous posters were talking about.... cam chain/tensioner.
The general rule is that if it's still making noise after warmup, it needs replaced.
You may want to ask your question over in the F3 area, though.. I'm sure the guys/gals over there will help you out, too.

Not that you aren't welcome here, but this area is more oriented towards the CBR1000F.

I have a 91' with just under 91k on her. She's been more or less problem free other than basic up keep. The one thing seems like EVERYONE has is the old cam chain.

Just like EVERYONE else, I have the warm up rattle then it subsides.

Thanks for the the piece of mind trout. I am really dreading changing that thing. I was contemplating taking her in to Honda, but saw what that other poor bastid paid earlier and me thinks I'm gonna give it the old college try when the warm up rattle becomes an all the time rattle.

Just a courious thought...... what happens if that sucker fails? How would it fail? Its essentially like a timing chain in a car right? *shudders*

You can double that or even triple it by fitting BT021's or Michelin PR2's with no loss of grip.

1 it's not that difficult, just a bit fiddly.
2 Not a thought to contemplate and yes, like a car but maybe a lot more expensive.
