The seat on my 86 often gets stuck. It's always after Iv'e replaced it in a rush whilst on the side stand. In my case it's only one of the plastic hooks under the seat out of place jamming the seat. Its the a right pain to remove. Usually you can spot it because one side of the seat sits higher than the other. Hopefully yours is as simple as that.

new to the forum, but been on a CBR for the past 10 years.
I replaced the stock seat on my 93 1000F with a Corbin seat, the first time I went to remove it to check the battery fluid level I could not turn the key to unlock it. After much fustration I figured it had to be jammed and since it worked great before I replaced the seat I assumed it should be a simple fix. Exerting quite a bit of rubber hammer force down on the passanger part of the seat and turning the key on impact (after trying to simply push down the seat and turn the key at the same time to the point of almost breaking the key) the latch opened. Since it's an aftermarket seat the latch hoop on the seat is just bolted in place so I used a couple washers as spacers to lower the hoop and it works perfect now.
point of all this is that you may have inadvertantly bent the hoop on the seat into the seat or somehow the arrangement has changed and you need to push down on the passanger part of the seat and try turning the key at the same time.
good luck!

Mine has the same lever as the part no. 12 in the above diagram. But I never had a helmet lock I just push the lever towards the rear with my thumb. The Hulmet lock may get in the way if this, but the point is I can reach it with my thumb. Some times I have to hit it as I move the lever to get it to release. Whe I get more important stuff taken care of I may buy the lock, it would be nice to lock the seat down. Sorta.
Hope this helps,
Patrick

i have throw overs under my seat to make it extra tricky, yip shadow is right push down on rear of seat BEFORE turning key, then it should pop up, if that doesnt work then the linkage is probably seazed, when did u have the seat last off?

+1 on pushing down on the seat, right over the latch, while turning the key.
I've done this before, and it's worked.
Also, if you store stuff back there, under the seat, sometimes that can screw with the latch. I have a manual back there, and sometimes my hat, etc.
