Default 1988 CBR1000 exhaust

Hello, i am working on a CBR1000 powered go kart, the problem i have is that the donor bike i am using came without an exhaust. And i am either going to look for an old battered exhaust system or make one from scratch so far i have had no luck finding an old system, therefore i am going to start constructing my own and i would like to know if i would need to keep the volume of the exhaust and the diameter of the tube the same as the origanal for the compression in the exhaust to remain the same or does it really matter what the volume is? it doesnt matter if power is lost but ideally i would like to keep as much power as i can

Any help would be appriciated.

Hello, i am working on a CBR1000 powered go kart,
Dude! Post up some pics. This sounds like a cool project. Sorry I can't help with the exhaust but I would love to see what you have so far.

If you up the diameter of the exhaust you will gain a small amount of peak HP at the expense of a narrow power band.

I can see you are going to have a major problem with traction

yes getting all that power down may be hard, thinking of getting some paddle tyres to combat this though, so far i have collected all the parts and are waiting in the garage for work to comence on the frame, but ill post some pictures when i get started which willhopefully be at the weekend, i will also set up a website of sorts to post loads of pictures on to show progression and ill post the address when ive set it up.
i think i will just make up an exhaust to a random but close sise and see what happens.
Thanks for the help so far

Holy crap :-)

Like other folk i'm looking forward to seeing how this comes along!

As it happens, I just removed the headers from my bike to (hopefully) get them welded up - they have gone through on the top of the collector box right next to the left and right outlets so it might be a tricky fix. Used one's seem very rare. When I get them back i'll do some basic measurements for you, although it may not be for a few days.

cheers gorilla_biker that would be really helpful. if your good at welding and have plenty of hammers anything can be fixed,i cant wait to get started and scare myself driving it and the power to weight ratio is going to berather good as the kart itself is only 4 ft by 6ft
