Default fuel pump fix

Hey to everybody,

Recently I wrote the "No fuel to Carbs" thread. In it, I determined that the fuel pump was indeed dead and went searching for a replacement pump. New part was $154.00 US and used anywhere from 75.00 to 125.00. Tried cross referencing to find out what other models used the same pump with limited success.

That was last November when the pump went south and during that time my search was for replacing the entire pump unit. Recently, I went back on the search and suddenly there all of these listings for replacement fuel pump points sets from K&L Supply (part # 18-4615). Googled the part number and found vendors for this part in the States and the UK. Ordered mine for $ 49.00 shipped to my door. The part is identical to the factory points and is easy to access and install. It does require soldering one lead and I recommend that you have faith in your skills since you basically have one chance to get it right.

I tested the pump on the bike and all is right again.

For a third of the price of a new pump I recommend this part.

The google search turned up a UK vendor that has a how-to video on installing the points. When saw how simple it was, I was sold

I sent a PM to Kiwi, hopefully he checks it out and helps him out.

This is one of the reasons I joined this site, then how friendly everone was, and I have been hooked.
