Front sprocket "jiggle" and damper ring not tight.
Hi,
I had a possibly-related issue, where I needed an extra washer in between the sprocket and the frame for it to tighten properly. I was getting an odd noise from the sprocket, and my mechanic put this washer in to fix it. He inspected to see if the frame was bent, but was unable to find any issues.
Recently, I did chain and sprockets. My damper ring was also badly worn, which was leading to increased vibrations at the bars. I replaced the sprocket and the damper ring with this: https://www.amazon.com/JT-Sprockets-...ype=motorcycle
The vibes are now gone. I did leave that extra washer in though - again, it would not tighten properly without it.
Hope this helps.

"there are two 19 bolts" thanks rc51fan for that correction. I've amended my post.
I still feel that they have some role to play in centering the sprocket. I haven't looked at my front sprocket in years, but I also don't have a problem there.
Can you fit that new sprocket with the rubber section facing out?
I'm interested to see how all this plays out.
Good luck,
Dennis

Unfortunately, they don't. It only holds the rubberized damper ring in place which sits next to the teeth and "quites" the chain. It only touches the sprocket via those two holes and although it covers the center washer somewhat, it doesn't touch any of it. Two separate systems and that's where I was confused in the beginning, I thought it was a damper for the jiggle too.
What I did do, was purchase a "cushioned" sprocket with all of that rubber already molded to the socket on both sides. Therefore you dont attach any of the damper items. For this sprocket to work, the tolerances are very tight. Unfortunately again, because I have "wiggle", the inner rubber was hitting the case at times. Once I saw this, I removed the sprocket and inspected the shaft.
I now see that the old sprocket was "jiggling" for so long (the previous owner up 45k miles on it and probably didn't check the chain tentions well or that often) the sprocket slapped around and ruined the output shaft. Oddly enough the bearing is still tight in my case!
To fix the warn out shaft would be a nightmare, so I'll just do a "get me by" until I need to do the bearing and tranny down the road.
The fix in the end was to add material (.2mm spacer) between the case and the sprocket to re center the ride of the chain (because the collar from the bearing is USUALLY replaceable, but now in this case for some reason) this brought the sprocket away from the case, align the chain to the rear sprocket, AND allowed me to have no "jiggle" in the sprocket when torqued.
We'll see how long the temp fix works before it doesnt!
