Default Front sprocket "jiggle" and damper ring not tight.

Front sprocket is going crazy crazy when I engine brake!

So, yes i checked the chain tension. It was fine, I actually tried a few different chain tentions to check things out, but unless I really over tighten it, it does the same thing.

When I down shift, the bike shivers and makes metallic noises which I've seen before on other bikes. Front sprocket it loose.

When I took her apart, all of the screws are seated properly. The main "special" bolt and washer are seated against the output shaft and solid which leaves the sprocket about 1/16 inch (2mm) play back and forth. Im assuming this is normal as there is a damper ring to combat this.

Now, the problem is that when I install the damper ring, it's still all loose (as if it's not doing anything. ) the damper ring is loose under the guide ring (plastic thing). I'm assembling according to the microfiche.

I'm assuming the damper ring is warn out. Where can I get something to replace it if that's the case? (There is only one for sale on ebay from Japan and its $16 plus $30 shipping) are there alternatives? Do you think this is the problem?

Hi,

I had a possibly-related issue, where I needed an extra washer in between the sprocket and the frame for it to tighten properly. I was getting an odd noise from the sprocket, and my mechanic put this washer in to fix it. He inspected to see if the frame was bent, but was unable to find any issues.
Recently, I did chain and sprockets. My damper ring was also badly worn, which was leading to increased vibrations at the bars. I replaced the sprocket and the damper ring with this:

The vibes are now gone. I did leave that extra washer in though - again, it would not tighten properly without it.
Hope this helps.

right, appreciated, but that's the one I mentioned in the original quote from Japan with $30 shipping I think..

The bigger issue here I think is the that the sprocket has space between the output shaft collar and washer when tightened down. I'm still looking for info on how much gap there is supposed to be before I tear into the transmission.

seems highly unlikely that there would be endplay in the mainshaft, unless you found evidence of foul play in the oil .What about the rubber dampeners in the rear wheel hub?

Nope, No play in the shaft.. is this amount of play in the sprocket normal? (SEE VID)

Maybe I've got the wrong sprocket?

Well! Again there is no play in the output shaft when I pull and push on it, so he bearing feels tight... I dont know why there seems to be excess play in the shaft where the sprocket sits.
I can get a 0.40mm finger gauge in between the tightened washer/nut and the sprocket. Is that normal?
Also! I got the JT cushioned sprocket in the mail. When I tried to install it,The inner rubber rubs against the engine case.. so.. I guess I'll be making a spacer..

what? Lol...

20 is the center bolt holding the sprocket and washer on there... there are two 19 bolts that hold the plastic damper cover on that have nothing to do with this situation...
