Hey Dub, Lovely looking bike mate, and proof that it could be legit, lol. I'm guessing that the easiest way to find out is to check the engine numbers, but as Wolfman has also said, doing a HPI check would probably show anything up too............. maybe
He only paid £645 (about $980) for it so he could break it into parts and still make a profit if he can't find anything out and doesn't want to use it on an 88 reg plate.
If i find anything else out i'll let everyone know.

NoBrains01:
Hey, Thanks for the Compliment, and yes I would do the HPI and DVLA checks, but he got a great price, he could break it, and make all that back and then some.let us know if he goes that route as I would be interested in some fairing/body/headlight parts even with shipping.
Good luck with whatever he decides.

I think a pic of the motor in general could give it away. Older carbs and several other things on the 88....

Hey Gaz. I'd give the guy a ring that your mate bought the bike off. You mentioned he seemed like a good bloke and I don't think anybody would mind a friendly enquiry. He might be able to shed some light on things for you. The bike's the same colour scheme as mine at the front but mine's white at the back. Either Honda really mixed them up for different markets or the bike really is a bitsa.

Dub. That's interesting to know. Could be a real pain for a new owner to order parts if they didn't know this mod was possible.

I guess if the frame and engine numbers are legit, you could make all the rest fit, although it'd be quite a job.......
I'd be keen to hear from whoever did the mods, too.

I used an 88 top gasket set on my bike -90 model - no problem. I suspect the other gaskets would be OK too.

If you haven't done so, put up the frame and engine numbers and let me see what I can find out..............
It may help to solve the mystery.
(For example, we have members in Germany, and while the UK and US manuals don't have the German numbers, the German manuals of course do....) Same for other countries, so maybe.............

I'll get the numbers next time i'm down my mates as he has the bike there. I know the frame number confirmed it was a 1988 model but we haven't looked at the engine yet.

Hey:

So what was the outcome of this, did it all turn out legit, and how does he like it a year on?

I don't actually know the outcome. I'm guessing it's legit in some way as he still owns the bike and uses it regularly.

He likes it but he doesn't have a love affair with it like me and GMC, but that's probably because he didn't bother coming all around Europe with us so hasn't got the same luuuuvvvvv
