Default Registering in Australia question...Compliance plates.

Hi guys, specifically Aussies for this one.

Im looking for a resto project in Victoria and have found a few field bikes/barn finds.

If the current owners dont have any documentation but the bike has compliance plates is it much of a hassle getting it back on the road?

Im new to the Aus ways so very grateful of any help.

Pommie.

My understanding is that what you're trying to do is totally impossible.

Apparently what you need to do is crate them up and send them to me in NZ and I will attend to it from there.

From my reading of the Customs website in NZ the easiest bikes to import to me in NZ are Z1's, H2's and CB1100 R's.

Other models may be considered , perhaps very early CB750's but apparently only if they have the original pipes.

Thanks for your question and always very glad to help.

Cheers

Please forward bank account details and we will be very pleasured to be submitting large amounts of money on behalf of your cousin who was apparently a former high ranking Nigerian Government Minister of Oil.

Cheers P, (glad to see you took it in the spirit intended) I'm sure one of the Aussies will give you some guidance.

All good fun mate....

Havent quite got to grips with the registration here. Its very different to the UK, and seems different from state to state.

CBRClassic is probably your "go to guy" to help you out here. He lives in one of those big Australian states (to be fair I always get Vic and NSW confused - that's probably fair enough thou' I only have to keep track of a North and a South Island where I live).

Anyway PM Steve, I'm sure if he can't help you himself, he will be able to put you onto someone that can.

He will probably also be able to set you up with some excellently priced shipping deals to NZ.

I have done some more research and apparently those 500cc Yam two strokers are also on the "Approved to Ship to TK" list.

What a great service, who couldn't like NZ Customs?

Don't try and send me a Harley thou, it would seem that they could carry Fireblight disease that may affect our apple exports.

I can honestly say i've just sprayed beer though my nose!

Amazingly enough the only bike I have thats taking space up in my garage is a mate's UltraGlide... so due to the infestation risks I better hang on to that.

I'll pm Steve like you said, thank you for the heads up.

Ive got my eyes on a big single cylinder thumper trail bike (Honda) that I fancy restoring for road reg. Still after a good F3..... Eyes get too big for my wallet and time but you only live once.

Still to travel NZ too.... work and life seems to get in the way of fun!
