There's a 'puter in my workshop Mark, so I can pretty much leave you guys minimised (not a bad thing perhaps

I think it might be back to two, the Hawkwind is probably making wind under the
blankets by now with the I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay routine going on in his
head from all the exhaustion & stress from that broken stud

Steve ... good luck mate , but remember , if you have to drill , small holes first ....!!!
Its real east to get carried away and drill the **** out of a stuck stud or bolt !!!! and putting the removed material back is such a bitch !! lolol unless yu have a real good god contact number at hand ??? and by the sounds of all the beer cleaning up that's going on mate , you might just be able to
the big guy to het his help !! ..lolol

Well guys, I snapped the frickin stud extractor 
Of course it's too hard to drill, so I'm nearly ready to chuck the towel in.
Don't know what to do now. Rang an engineering company and they are willing to do it, but they need the cylinder head off the bike.
Never done anything like that before, so I'm a bit worried
Looks like my riding season is over this year

Aaah - Hawk - wish I'd have logged in sooner.
This is exactly what I went through last year (2 studs for me)
I kept throwing money at different tools and ended up breaking an easy out in the thread.
Believe me NOTHING you do at home is going to drill that F*cka out of there.
I went to the extent (And expense) of buying a 6 foot floor mounted pillar drill, took my engine out and tried to drill it out - no joy.
The engineering shop is spot on - heads off to have it drilled out or do what I did and pick up a replacement engine.
I decided the quickest was the engine swap and I intended to take the head of my original engine - get it drilled out - put the original back in and then resell the one that is now spare.
An engine swap will take a good weekend the first time you do it - but you will be back up and running whilst you work on yours.
When yours is back in you will also get your money back when you sell on the temp engine.
With hindsight I would NEVER try and remove an exhaust with using a blowtorch first.
Also - just my opinion here - but I would be heating the head rather than the studs - heat makes metal expand and if you heat the stud it will get wedged tighter.
I went out and bought a blowtorch after I snapped the second one (They do go easy) and the others came out without any hassle (You don't have to heat a lot as the hole the stud goes into only has to expand a fraction to break the seal)
