Unhappy Exhaust Blowing

As stated the exhaust is blowing, sounds nice and raspy when revved but wont pass the MOT in November

Will try to get a picture later, but had a look and it's the collector box on top where the fixing bracket is. Everything looks pretty solid, don't know why it's snapped there, maybe it's a common weak spot?

So questions, will I need to take the exhaust off to get it welded?

Will the downpipe studs snap when I try to loosen them?

Any tips/suggestions welcome, has anyone had the same problem?

As I said before I'll try to post a pick up ASAP.

Cheers Guys, waiting for replies

I would definitely remove any component from the bike before attempting to arc Weld on it. You don't want stray current bike running through the bearings in your bike. My advice would be to remove the part/parts in question and take them to qualified shop for repairs. A good shop shouldn't charge more than 1hours labor. At my shop I charge 40 per hour. That's the going rate around here. Good luck.

Ha Ha! Found my camera

This is the bracket on top of the collector box and the hole is where the bracket and box meet.

Hey:

My old 94 broke there as well reinforce it and the centerstand bracket. The stand broke soon afterwards as well. That bike was exposed to lots of poor road conditions and it showed in that area the most. Also from the pic, it looks like the bracket on the rightside upper corner is in need of a weld as well.

Thanks for the replies guys.

CBR1988 already had to replace the centre stand, it rusted through in the middle and snapped leaving me in a sticky situation

Any tips on removing/replacing the exhaust, will I need to use new sealing rings for the header pipes when they're replaced?

Cheers

The exhaust gaskets are the crush type, they look like copper tube.

+1 on the mig !
Highly concentrated heat - if you can put some wet newspaper on surrounding areas you may be able to weld it in place, not sure how much space you have, Hawk.
A good man with a mig welder can perform miracles !

Totally agree with CBRclassic, whip em off and get it mig'ed. MIG is the only way to go. Arc is to heavy for this work. Definately take em off the bike to get done. I got mine mig'ed when it cracked last year, cost me bugger all at the exhaust place to get done properly, no issues since.

Re the flange washers, mine were good to go, but I still used a smear of exhaust sealer when putting them back on, all good. I CRC'd the nuts and just took my time undoing, not being an animal undoing them, nothing broke, just a case of bolting it up again and back on the road.

Yep, great pics too

Cheers guys!

Don't have a welder, so I'll have to take it down to the local garage to let them do it.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll let you know how many studs I snap
