CCT prime
Hi guys, I'm doing some maintenance and oil leak checking at the moment on my '87 1000F and after reading the workshop manual I have the following query. How much oil does it take to fill the CCT? The manual shows the bottle of oil being poured into the top of the CCT but it does not say how much. I thought that I might give this a go while I have the cover off to replace the cover gasket. It rattles a bit but not enough to change it over at the moment. cheers, Steve.

Have a very good read of Naga_Thai's excellent how to:
https://cbrforum.com/forum/how-tos-8...a-thai-143024/
He suggest you do NOT pre oil the tensioner.
Let us know how you go.
Cheers, SB

But note that he says you should pre-oil it before you put the valve cover back on.
I've just followed his advice and the bike (1990 F-L) sounds quieter than it has in a long time. I put a few soupspoonfuls in (20W50).
I've also replaced the starter clutch (NOS) and water pump (used).
I can now hear the engine... but am waiting for the next thing to go wrong...

Thanks guys, Sebastionbear, I did read Naga-Thais article and it is excellent. I have not replaced the CCT, I saw what he said about putting oil in when installed and I put about 1/2 a cup of oil down it last night. I will be re-installing the rocker cover over this coming weekend so I was just curious as to how much oil needs to go in. I did have the carbys adjusted the other week and riding the bike home the CCT rattle disappeared until the next morning. Riding to work a guy pulled up beside me on a FJR1300 and commented on how good it was to see an old bike still being used. He joked about the rattle and said that if it did not rattle then it was not a Hurricane. Thanks again guys. Steve.

Absolutely; she's just passed her MOT - but an advisory on front offside brake pads - which means it's wearing faster than the nearside (they were replaced at the samer time) so that'll be my next job...

I've been riding for 40+ years and have never had a flat on a bike on the street (though I have in motocross). Luckily, we both had cell phones and a good signal ... 3 hours on the side of the road and StrongArm's Cycle Rescue showed up in a Mercedes Sprinter.
Sadly, in those 3 hours, we must have counted about 50-60 bikes wave and ride on by. One biker stopped only because he had a ranch within visual distance and thought, "they're spending way too much time -resting-, better go check on them"
