bad engine knock and stalling....help please
well I pulled the cover and checked all the valve clearances...and every one was way to tight...the exhausts were supposed to be .16 +or- I believe and I could not even get a .08 gauge in there...I am debating whether I want to try and tackle it myself or just take it to the shop as there is one about a mile away and just have them do the valve job and sync the carbs???
I also uploaded a couple more pictures of those tubes and where they go too...you can see them here

Have you tried a higher octane fuel and how old is the fuel that you are using?? mine used to have a small knock noise on Unleaded but once run on Premium it went away
awsome write up...after seeing that I think I am confident I can do it myself...I think I will stop at the dealer and order the tool though..thanks
There is 89 octane in it now...and its only about 2 weeks oldI drained all the old out before it was started...if it is still noisy when I get it back together maybe i will bump it up

[sm=bounceybounce.gif]If you track back through the forum you'll find loads of useful info from other owners who have solved problems, which these bikes have a habbit of posing.
As for the valves, have a go as you will get more satifaction from doing it yourself rather than having a dent in your pocket. Just remember to do your checks before you move on.
These pipes are something else, they go into the float bowls from the air cleaner, thus giving more air to the fuel, so it might be possible that one of these pipes is restricted or blocked. I have never seen anything like this done before. As for what Waz was saying, these bikes were designed to run on unleaded long before it was readily availble, but over here in the UK we run on 95 octane, so was supprised to see that you run on 89. To go higher than 95 would lead to the valves burning out
Did you find out which cylinder was making the noise? Also looking at the pics, the air intake tubes appear to be set away from there normal seating position, just something else to check.
