Default Another Front sprocket change question

Tomorrow after I go pick up one of my kids friends and bring them back to my house I'm going to start my chain and sprocket replacement. So far it doesn't look like to complicated a job. I do have another question though.

I know to take off the sprocket cover I have to remove the speedo cable first. My question is, do I also have to remove the shift lever before I can take off the sprocket cover?

The shift lever does need to come off.

Take note of the exact position of the lever, so that you can replace it in the same position.

I think there are little marks (a line and a dot?) to help you line the lever up with the axle.

2 dots (indents) one on the shaft one outside the splines - they should align unless you plan on dropped pegs
then they outer indent gets dropped down a spline or two.
