is there a big difference between a 525 chain and a530 chaibn, i went to two different dealers this morning to et my sprockets and chain, one isn stting me up with same as oem spocket and chain and the other one issetting me uo wuthsprocket of a vfr800 and 525 chain..

what do you think

 

Stick to 530 chain if I were you.......

 

The difference between a 530 chain and a 525 is the width of the chain. This came from the EK Chain FAQ. I thought it answered the question quite well. I now realized that back in the fall of 2006 I had a similar question that I posted hereincluding some pictures. The previous owner had installed a 530 chain on a 525 sprocket for her F3. The chain had a fair amount of side to side play in it. I'd recommend using the OEM sizing that came with your bike. If you change, at least match the size chain with the sprockets.

 

I think the other dealer didn't have the part for your bike in stock and they were just trying to make a sale, and maybe some parts person thinks they are a racer and you need to shed some weight on your rotating mass because thats what her heard from someone or some article. I would stick with the 530 chain. The chain is tougher and will resist stretching more than a 525. Also you'll spend more for a 525 to achieve the same strength as a cheaper 530. Also stick with steel rear sprocket, they wear a lot better than aluminum. I've ridden for a while now and i haven't needed to help of switching to lighter weight components, i'm good, but not professional good. lol Well hope this helps

Just for laughs, you might also want to make sure you get the right length..

I just put my firstnew chain on since I got the bike last summer, the adjusters
seemed way back, but I thought it was due to chain stretch.

Bike shop ordered a 116 link, said thats all they could order ??
needed a 114 for stock sprockets, so Iremoved old chain and laid them
out to measure and see how bad the stretch was and guess what the
old chain was longer than the new one.

So needless to say I cut 2 links off, installed new "correct" length chain, and now my adjusters
work and look correct.

 

I would stay with the 530.

As chains get bigger the side plates, pins and rollersalso get bigger. With that said, the bigger rollers should give you longer life with normal riding. Going too big would be an over kill adding weight and friction. If you go with the 525 it would wise to change the chain as soon as you see any signs of ware. With smaller pins that have ware, you would be pushing your luck when you twist your right wrist.

The VFR can use the 525 because it is lighter and may have less pulling power from the drive train.
