I recall reading somewhere that increasing idle speed is helpful for the track rider. What RPM is good to start with?

 

Increasing the idle makes it easier to downshift fast-easier to match the engine/tranny speed. At the the track I idled my F4 at 2500 to 3k

 

I usually run 2000 - 2500, BUT I also have a slipper clutch in my bike, which make a big difference. Without one I would run a little higher, about the same range as racer212.

 

Is the slipper cluch on your 600 RR? Any info you can give regarding?

 

Yep in the 600RR, actaully I also have one in my 748 as well.
I have a Yoyodyne slipper in the 600, it really settles down the bike on corner entry. You just have to be carefull and install the clutch pack correctly as it's stacked in a different order than stock clutch. For a track only or race bike I can't recommened a slipper highly enough. If I could only do two modification to a race bike (other than basic race prep) #1 would be suspension and #2 would be a slipper clutch.

I also have a STM slipper in my 748, while the build quality is just as good as the Yoyodyne unit, it's a little harder to get set-up correctly and costs about $300 more.

 

yeah I had a 250 two stroke for a while and it had little or no engine breaking, the cbr's engine breaking is really tough to get used to and i could see the benefits on the track

 

So for the trackday rider like myself, would increasing the RPM be essential? Shouldn't I do it in small increments? I'm comfortable downshifting/braking/blipping.
