Default Upping to 1000cc's in MotoGP?

Hope this isn't a repost. Sounds like they want to bring down cornering speeds. Anyways, should be fun to watch.

Could anyone enlighten me as to how upping displacement reduces cost? I can't imagine Ducati hearing this news and thinking to themselves "hmm... 990cc engines, eh? Fire our senior engineers and let the new guy design a motor!"

I wonder if the mystifying desire to reduce cornering speed is borne of safety concerns or marketing strategy.

My take on it is it will be cheaper to use 1000s beacuse its the manufactures factory made engine & do prototype bodies & parts versus a entirely prototype everything. Their is a big huff & puff between MotoGP & WSBK because of this.

Actually the rules of MotoGP require that everything is specifically made for that race. Using parts from any production bike will have you disqualified.

They tried to reduce the power of the bikes by going to 800's and what happened, they found more power!

I remember when they started adding weight to Bayliss's 999 in wsbk to slow him down and make it more competitive for other manufacturers. He just got faster, he said it made the bike more stable.

I think its a combination of all of the above, safety, cost, and competition.

I'm a WSB guy myself and find GP a bit boring. I hope the change makes it more exciting?

Yep, It's probably a combination of those factors, but I hear riders in interviews so amped t get the 1000's back because the 800cc is almost like riding a 500cc 2stroke with it's narrow powerband and high corner speed needs.

4 stroke 1000's will see a heavier field up front and maybe make it as exciting as SBK. but SBK is so boring with Checa winning everything anyway.
