Unhappy Mystery idle and starting issues

Hi all,

Ive had my 205rr (MC22) for a number of years now. It has always had cold starting, ratio, idle and carb issues but they've always rectified. After leaving my bike for 3 months while I was on holiday, I've been unable to service and start the bike sucessfully.

The bike will chug and eventually start. It will surge to high revs but no matter what I do I cant keep the revs up to clear up the carbs and warm up. Even if I hold the throttle slightly open, it will peter out. Hold it wide and it also peters out. I'd go back and charge the battery and try again and it will do the same thing. Eventually come to life then stop and not start again.
It seemed like I flooded the sparkies trying to start. I cleaned the spark plugs and tried again and had the same issue.

Hefty carb cleaner down the carbs has largely cleaned them up - the bike does start, its just keeping the revs up thats the issue. Ive charged the battery, cleaned the plugs. I havent replaced in view of costs. The starter sounds strong, but I dont have a multimeter to test the battery.

I had some white smoke (probabaly just dirty carbs?) and some backfires.
Also note that I have some oil on the spark plug threads, indicating a leaky valve but its not flooding with engine oil.

Does anyone have advice? Thanks guys.

You probably need to clean the carbs thoroughly. They need to be removed and disassembled to do this.
