Man that really sucks.... It's too bad the following story didn't happen in your case but it may bring a smile to your face anyway....
In '02 I went out for a night of drinking, came home at 1:00 or so and went to bed...... about 3:00 I was woke up by both the phone ringing and someone pounding on my door.... The police were at my door and a dispatcher was calling me.... I threw some clothes on and went outside... I had 6 bikes in my garage at the time. 4 were mine and 2 belonged to friends. 2 bikes had been dragged out of my garage and were laying on their sides2 wereknocked over in the garage and one was sitting right where I had parked it.... I was still half asleep and half drunk..... The cops were cool about it though.. They asked how I got home, I told them a friend dropped me off, they asked for a name and I told them.... Cops can tell ifyou're lying and I wasn't......

Anyway, I'm standing in my driveway talking to a couple of cops while one cop is dusting for prints.... I couldn't believe they were actually taking fingerprints... Then it occurrs to me that one bike is missing.... I couldn't believe I didn't notice that. One cop thought it was pretty funny.... He said some thing to the affect of "I remember those nights" The missing bike was my '01 929. I had donea ton of stuff to it...chrome wheels, second looks seats, red micronpipeundertail, red tach.....the list goes on... i was trlling one cop about this and explaining it would be very easy to pick out as there wasn't another one like it around. He was filling out a report snd I went in to get the title so I could get him a vin number. When I walked back out, I heard the dispatcher say that Marion County Sheriffs (not the department I was dealing with)had just reported a chase with a red motorcycle that ended when the motorcycle 10-50'd.... My cop asked for the location and the dispatcher told him... I called a friend and we headed over there... The crash happened near a warehouse that has a big parking lot... the road was all blocked off but were were able to sneak into the blocked area through the back of the parking lot.... I walked up to a couple of cops that were standing there talking and explained why I was there... by this time it's after 6:00 and I'm for the most part sober.... The cop was cool with me being there and pointed me in the direction of the bike.... I walked around the side of a police car and saw what was left of my bike.... He had gone off the shoulder in an "S" curve and hit a culvert which sent the bike flying into a pole then it tumbled for a while and came to rest easily 100 yards from where it went off the road. The bike looked like it had been hit by a train. I asked about the guy riding it... I assumed it might be someone I know because I don't really advertise what's in my garage.... But it wasn't.
The cop I was talking to told me the guy was alive but in pretty bad shape. They made a quick mention of it on the news but didn't mention the bike being stolen or the rider's name.... They covered that a few days later in the paper and included a picture... I think it was from a previous arrest.
Word got around about this and I found out the guy (who was 20 years old) had broke his back and was paralyzed from the waist down.... I never forgot his face or name (James Debrune).... About a year ago, I was at a boat show and saw this guy in a wheelchair that looked like him.... I asked if his name was Debrune... and he corrected me on the pronunciation.... Then I said "guess there's no way you'll be doing that again" he looked confused and I said "It's going to be hard to steal another one of my bikes since none of them have wheelchair l
