YOU THINK IT NEVER HAPPENS TO YOU!

Disc locks and the like are only deterrents. We've all seen the video where some guys take approx 15 seconds to just pick up a bike and stuff it in a van. Chains and locks are easily defeated. If they want it, they'll get it. Your only assurance is insurance.

TRUE STORY.... since we're on the topic of bikes being stolen. Back in 2004 when I was in school, shortly after I bought my bike in October, a friend/classmate of mine decided "I want to get a bike too!". So he did, and in November bought a new '04 GSX-R 600. He loved the bike... we rode together a few times, blah blah. Well early January, he comes home, parks the bike in his back yard. He had one of those 3 wall fences up against his house, much like many people have for garbage cans and stuff, but a little bigger and on the back of his house. He parks it in there, put a cover over it, locked the gate, and parked his car in front of the gate so it couldn't be opened. The bike was completely out of sight to anyone driving by. He woke up the next morning to his mom coming in.... "Ryan where's your bike at??". He says "it's in the back yard", to which she replies, "Uhhh no it's not!!". ****** bastards still got it. His car was still parked in front of the gate, still locked. They somehow managed to get it up and over the fence and off they went. He said he could see the skid mark in the neighbors grass where they were dragging it. Called insurance, they gave it 30 days to look for the bike and they never found it, so they cut him a check and it was a done deal. 4 months later, I'm at work on a saturday and Ryan calls me and he sounds all excited..... "dude the cops left me a message last night, they said they found my bike!". Turns out the police raided a warehouse for some other reason (exactly what it was I don't know), and they just happened to find his bike sitting there. They ran the VIN and sure enough it came up stolen. He went down there with his key... stuck it in and she fired right up. Still in almost perfect condition other than a few tiny scratches and of course they hotwired it. Had 100 miles put on it since it was stolen, but otherwise just sitting there collecting dust (literally). But he couldn't take it cuz the insurance company had already paid him for it, so they took it. He even asked if he could just give them their money back and keep the bike, but they wouldn't do it. It actually took them a week or so to figure out how to handle it... they said they'd never actually had a bike that was later recovered before, lol. But they said the bike would be going to auction and he'd have to go and buy it back there. It was alot of red tape and whatnot, I think he just gave up eventually. Now he has a boat, and a wife and a kid now too, lol
That sucks.Ill keep a eye open in my neck of the woods.Shouldnt be hard to spot..
Same thing happened to a good friend, was stolen from outside his bedroom window(less than 5 feet from his head to his bike outside)..By the time he heard a engine start it was gone..
Later on he got a new one ,this time he kept in a self storage building down the street.
Mine stays in a garage with a alarm on the garage..But im sure if they want it ,it will be gone.

Thats terrible my favorite 954 color scheme, i couldnt imagine putting that much work into something just to have it dissapear, i hope u find it or something as a worthy replacement.
damn it! i actually liked you and your bike. im really sorry to know that this happened to you.
replacing it will be hell but keep in mind that we always strive for something greater & grander. good luck.

For everybody else who's been there for me today I really appreciate everything you guys have said and done to make me as comfortable as possible today... even though it's been the longest day ever.
I hope that tomorrow brings a better avenue for me, and I just hope someone out there gets a tip off from one of the posts I've made all over the internet so we can catch these thieves.
I'm going to go to bed and hopefully I'll wake up and she'll be out there in her spot where she's supposed to be.
If not, let's catch these SOBs.
Hoping for the best... ya never know! If we do catch him, I have a gun but since my vision sucks and my aim might be a lil off, I may just have to shoot him a couple dozen times just to make sure I got him. No objections to that though, right?? I could have ALOT of fun with a theif and a weedeater too

This whole situation really blows, man. Hopefully this will be a wake up call to everyone that doesn't have full coverage insurance. This is the perfect example of "better safe than sorry."
I do, however, see a 1000rr in your future...
