Ok ... Well I have never rode without a helmet and jacket except for after I wash my bike and just take it for a quick run around the two subdivisions at around 8am. I just throw on sunglasses shorts and tennis shoes and go. Obviously I'm not doing it to be cool because who is up at 8am other than old people and why would I try to impress them? It does feel really nice tho just to be cruising at 30mph in the cool morning drying off your bike from being fresh washed.

One question for you guys who call everyone who does a wheelie or matches clothes a squid. Have you ever washed your bike? Why do you wash your bike? You do it because it looks nice to have a fresh clean bike. I personally agree with 13brsxsrr. I like to look good when I go somewhere I don't care to look like a scrub with crappy clothes so I have a matching shoei helmet and jacket. Whats wrong with looking good?

Those tires do look kinda pimp too though I'd put them on my bike. It's different, something you don't see every day, and when you drive by people look. Theres nothing wrong with wanting something flashy for people to see. If you disagree with that then I sure as heck hope that you're not voting for the cbr of the month because ALL of those bikes are flashy and made to be eye catchers.

Call me a squid if you want, but I want to be able to do wheelies and endos because they do look "cool". Nothing wrong with showing off a little bit. Now as far as doing wheelies on the freeway at 130mph those vidoes are amazing. The skills that those guys have I envy and wish I could be one of the very few riders that could do that. I've seen some pictures on this site of wheelie unit and other sports bike events I sure hope that the people looking at those pictures with out disgust or thinking those events would be fun to attend are not calling people squids because most of the pictures I saw had people with the gangsta hat sideways in shorts t-shirt doing wheelies NO PROTECTION AT ALL!!! SHAME ON THEM THOSE SQUIDS!...... <--- sarcasm

Nothing wrong with wanting to look "cool" with matching gear and being able to "stunt" imo.

Mike

..........Its not lane splitting though, I wouldn't do that...too ignorant

IMO Lane splitting, when done appropriately, adds a huge margin of safety for the cyclist. The main reason is that the cyclist leaves the pack of cages behind after every red light, therefore reducing the time spent riding packed in amongst the cell phone drivers.

Some other countries actually encourage this by adding a white line 10 feet prior to the stop bar so the motorcyclists have extra space. I did it all the time while I lived in Las Vegas, where you need to wait for 6 - 10 stoplight cycles to get through (in the 112 degree heat). Even though I did this many times passing a cop (I thought it was legal everywhere) I was never pulled over. I think CA is the only place it is legal (that sux)

just my 2cents

Aint nothing wrong with looking good. The squidly factor kicks in when one pulls wheelies, stoppies, daredevil speeds etc. among traffic. Safety for the public is the issue. Being an idiot costs everyone money too (insurance premiums). I enjoy pulling the wheel up every now and then, its fun, thats my reason for having a motorcycle. I think most of us have ridden on one wheel before. Doing this in traffic = squid. Doing this alone = having fun.

my 2 cents

i dont have a problem with matching gear either.... i have a blue/black alpinestar jacket with blue/black alpinestar gloves, black shoei helmet..... plan on getting some kind of blue/black alpinestart boots as well. Matching is not the deciding factor if someone is a squid or a poser. the best definition is as follows

Squid (motorcycle)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Squid(motorcycle))
Jump to: navigation, search
Squid: ['Noun'] {slang, generally considered derogatory} is an irresponsible motorcyclist; generally associated with a new or reckless motorcyclist seen riding erratically and/or beyond his or her capabilities often without appropriate riding gear.

The origin of the word is varyingly attributed as a contraction of squirreley and kid, or an acronym for "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Ignorant and Dangerous" or "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed and Imminently Dead" It is also attributed to a beginning motorcyclist using direct similarities to the aquatic sea creature by the same name. Observing a squid underwater, it seems that the creature is unable to change direction while swimming without first coming to a near complete stop. Once the squid does stop and change directions, it can very quickly accelerate back to its regular swimming speed. Beginning motorcyclists (especially sports bike riders) commonly have trouble turning the motorcycle with any substantial amount of speed (causing them to slow down to unnecessarily slow speed to take a turn), while at the same time have a tendency to ride very fast on the straight sections of the road.

Often young, this motorcyclist is identified by their behaviour; (Reckless abandon, speeding, wheelies, stoppies etc.) and by their inappropriate attire; (Shorts, ball cap, flip flops etc). Such a rider eschews all or most of the protective gear worn by many riders (helmet, gloves, leather jacket, riding pants, and boots) and the social and legal norms of riding behaviour.

Often looked upon with derision by experienced motorcyclists.

Also referred to as "organ donors" and "soon-to-be-ex-motorcyclists" in tongue-in-cheek comments by other motorcyclists, comments that may have some basis in truth.

My definition: people who rev everytime they stop, people who buy gear but don't wear it, people who have no experience and buy liter bikes, people who race everything that moves, people who weave in and out of traffic and lane split.

i will agree with that...my boston terrier could ride a liter bike fast in a straight line...it's like handin a monkey a gun...most likley the bullets gonna end up in your butt and not his......gotta have complete respect for the MACHINE that you are perched on...it doesn't control itself...

I just don't understand why so many people can afford to buy a helmet for their bike and not one for their head. I have seen so many $500 shoei sliders.
