For what it is worth, I've seen Abad on another forum and I give him big props...he has good info. I totally understand what Jason is saying, though. I would love to take a vacation and do a track day, but I would be nervous to wreck my personal bike in the event of a mistake. If you rent a bike (I've heard you can as well), the trackwould be insured to "absorb" the cost of a crashed ride. If I spilled my bike, I would be hurting for sure (already have fixed the bike once). I can also understand using your personal bike, because then you would have hands on experience of the handling, weight, and response of the bike you are on everyday. Personally, I would chose to a rent abike the first time if I had a choice. You trackies have a different experience from some of us. I would love a track day as an abilities boost. I think it translates directly to the everyday ride. There is something to be said, however, about the guys who ride track [snobs :0)], saying you should ride your own bike. If you do, remember you have to do some minor modifications...that is another reason I would rent a bike if possible.

modifications needed: slapping some tape on your headlights, turn signals, and mirrors (maybe removing mirrors which requires a hex wrench and about 30 seconds to do)
most don't require coolant to be swapped or safety wiring anything for novice groups (although it is a good idea)

mostcompanies that rent bikes will have a fairly large deposit, could be around $500 so even a simple lowside that could cost as little as $100 to fix could cost you the full $500

if you wanna call using our experience to try to help somebody being a snob then go for it but everyone that does trackdays at some point had a first trackday

people seriously exagerate the probability of crashing at trackdays, yes it happens but doing a trackday does not mean your going to crash
you only crash when you do something STUPID or push your limits TOO FAR, neither of which you should be doing at your first trackday
a lot of trackdayorgs such as Sportbiketracktime have classroom sessions to teach you how to ride safely and not get yourself into trouble
and all of them that I know of have control riders out riding with you to make sure you don't ride over your head or do anything stupid
if you listen to these guys and follow their instructions and advice you should not be worried about crashing so much

I probably wasn't too clear, Woody, but I was trying to imply that if you track guys all say that a guy should ride his own bike, then there must be something to that...since, of course, you guyshave done it on a numerous ocassions. It is pretty intimidating at first, but I'll bet it fast becomes an addiction if you go once.
