For those of you that are bored
yea im taking an autocad class, because surprisingly i never had one throughout college. i had a unigraphix class my freshman year, and the place im going to start working uses autocad but its not like i remember much from 5 years ago. i actually have to start on the floor doing the actual manufacturing but 2 of their engineers are like 65 - 70 years old, one is having a bunch of surgeries right now and has already said he is retiring at the end of the year, so it will be about 6 months or so ill start splitting time with the eng. dept. and then a year or so ill be replacing the guy who is retiring.

2 years part time as a coop at komatsu doing plat layout, and 3 years where I am now...
I was trained in mainly auto cad, as well as Pro-E since thats CAT's big program
Ive actually never heard of MET. Yeah the autocad classes i had were the most hands on it got and i enjoyed those but there was only a couple of them the rest of my classes bored me to death and i just lost all interest after a while. Im still happy with where im at now, im at syracuse university and their information school is one of the best in the country, it was ranked #1 up until 2009 i know but im not sure if it still is. Its a really good program and really enjoyable, a lot more of what i want to be doing and like doing. Plus itll be nice to graduate from a college thats this reputable as opposed to the engineering college...it cant hurt at least. Im a senior now but i dont graduate until next year because i switched and lost some credits so yeah its definitely too late to switch again. Im gonna try to do our global enterprise technology minor too which will allow me to do a lot more hands on/field work with international companies soo ill hopefully get to travel a lot and it sets you up with an internship with jp morgan chase too i think. Maybe ill try to relearn and become good with autocad on my own time just for fun, we used proengineer i think as the main cad program...not sure how good it is compared to others but i remember a little bit of it at least.

Pro-E (pro engineer) is a the MAJOR mechanical engineering program along with Unigraphics, Autocad on the other hand is mainly only used in the architectural world...
you can use it for 2d mechanical but other than that its pretty much useless in the mechanical fields
I had autocad classes, pro e classes, a machining class, a metallurgy class, welding classes, machine designs classes (we made battle bots)
you get the idea

yea i def wouldnt recommend switching again i was just wondering how far through you were, to see if you had enough time to get some internship/coop experience. i dont know if its usually that hard to find jobs, but here in indiana our manufacturing jobs have been leaving like crazy. if i was more willing to relocate etc, it prob would have been easier to find something, but ive always lived here, and all my family lives here and i didnt really want to leave, so thats part of the reason why it took me so long also.
Yeah unfortunately i switched out of engineering after my sophomore year which would have been just when i was able to actually do internships or go abroad or do anything for that matter through the school. Then of course coming into the information systems school as a junior I had a lot of catching up to do and havent been able to do any internships either so i kinda effed myself. Plus i murdered my gpa before i switched because i didnt give a sh*t anymore and hated 90% of what i was doing and just wanted to be out of there. If either of you want to go design and manufacture me a time machine with your fancy programs real quick id appreciate that though. If not, once im done here i know a couple people that im hoping can help me out with an internship or even a job if im lucky. But you know what they say, wish in one hand.....
