It is a fine thread though ... as long as it doesn't become a cop bashing thread or a glorify evading police thread then discuss it til your fingers bleed ...
I will try to keep this as civil as possible. Cops have always had an incredible double standard. Almost once a week I see a cop do something idiotic with no consequence. There have been a few news stories here about cops who made similar foolish decisions and cost people their lives. Its amazing that this cop would even attempt to pursue that bike and incredibly tragic that he did. What makes this story worse is about a week later a lady stoned out of her mind ran from the police in the same area (i believe its been a while) and they decided not to chase her and she slammed into a crowd of people. I just dont get the thought process here, you chase a bike for a simple speeding ticket that you have no chance of catching; however, you pull over a women who is under the influence and make no attempt to stop her when she takes off. There needs to be more strict rules for police officers and they need to be enforced.
I am also afraid more people are going to start running from cops here. Recently Florida passed new bike laws with incredible fines ($5000, 10 years license suspension, bike impounded) and many of the bikers I have talked to about contend that they will run if a cop tries to stop them now. I was talking about it with my buddy while in line at the movies a couple weeks ago and the guy in front of us overheard us talking and turned around and said "makes it worth running doesnt it". The cops need to start enforcing the rules on their own and quit creating/raising penalties for us.

The second paragraph...i've been hearing for some time that stopping for the florida state patrol is no longer worth the hastle...i'm sorry but $5000, a lost bike, lost license...**** that...ready....set....gone. It's all a money game to a lot of these police forces and it's a shame.
In reguard to the Florida thing though, that probably what they want. So now all bikers will run, then they can go to the lawmakers and say, well no bikes will stop anymore at all, so we need to completely outlaw them. Or something like that anyhow. Im telling ya, its the beginning of the end for us.
whydo the youth these days have no respect for cops? I understand this story is this cops fault, he had a lapse in judgement. but you dont no what he has been or experienced previously to this accident. perhaps he has dealt with bikers doing the same thing and getting close ones to him killed so he may have taken this a bit personal. I dont think its right to judge on this one time - each person makes mistake,, this cop made a big one, but i dont think he is a "bad person" because of this i cant make that judgment because i dont no his past. but it seems when people post things especially younger people.. they have this disrespect towards police. They are like every organization, they have a few bad apples,,, but dont disrespect cops because they might pull you over or what not,,,
tjahr,
he was in the wrong more than once. 1) wasnt even SUPPOSED to pursue. PG co. officers are not permitted to puruse simple traffic violators. bank robbers-yes, stab someone-yes....but he wasnt given permission to nor was allowed to chase the bike to begin w/. 2) he shut his camera off. that alone is shady. 3) no lights/sirens. he wasnt going to a b/e or a bank robbery. lights and sirens should have been on especially if he's traveling 120+ down the highway.
again, not starting an agruement, Tjahr. i think this is a good debateable topic.......but its begining to go downhill.

Tjahr...do you think anyone who takes things "personal" like that are fit to be cops? I mean being caught up in past events when dealing with the present has been known to screw peoples judgment up pretty badly. You have the biker who probably did one thing wrong, a wheelie on the highway maybe, lane splitting or speeding, something simple, then you turn around and get this Rambo police officer who is turning his camera off to "hide" the events, not using sirens or lights, and flying down the highway at over 110mph...not to mention he killed 2 people(if i read that right) and injured countless others...Idiot...point blank period...there is no rescuing this guy and he should have served the rest of his life in jail, but he's a cop, slap on the wrist, fired at the worst. And the youth have no respect for most cops because of the power tripping young cops who really think they are the **** because of a gun and a badge. The old timer cops i have met, and a few in their 30's have ALL been cool, but the few ********* i've dealt with have all been young and on a power trip...especially that skinny little ***** that i'd love to break in half. Whoops starting to rant there...anyway...i'm done saying what i have to say. for now anyway
It is fair to judge on 1 incident. Done every day. Go 40 years clean and sober ... drink too much 1 time and get caught driving and you will spend the night in jail and pay around $5000 not including raised insurance rates. Plus you can lose your job or be denied employment. And I actually agree that it is fair ... because driving impaired can kill the driver and innocent peeps who just happen to be unlucky enough to get in the way.
But I do agree that the younger generation does not respect law enforcement.
And again, this is not a bash the cops free for all. The topic at hand is how 1 officer made a decision and people died as a result.

im gona make one post on this.
cops deal with things most of you will never understand. not only do they deal with things you wont understand most feel they can not talk about it with any more. most of them have more things bottled up in them then you could ever imagine.
second if the cop broke laws and department procedure he should be held accountable. how ever sometimes people make mistakes cops are human just like you it happens.
the biker should be held just as responsible as the cop. if the biker didn't run we wouldn't even be discussing this. dont detract from what he did just becuase the police officer made bad decisions.
