A dumb question for sure but...

What happens when you try and register a salvaged title?

Apart from maybe paying more than the bike was atually worth, I'm asking about any kind of legal repeurcussions.

what did the issued title say on it when it was handed to your friend ? i find it hard to believe that he had a issued clean title certificate but in the system it was salvaged. when filling for salvaged title atleast here in ca you must fill out the salvaged paper work and turn in the old title so it can be re issued stating that it is now salvaged.

also can you prove that the seller knew it was a salvaged title bike and intentionally sold it as clean ?

was the bike in the sellers name or was it in a "previous owners" name ?

was the bike sold with a AS IS clause ?

A salvaged vehicle must have an identifying label, does it not?

Methinks so.

A friend of my recently got a bike and the guy he got it from told us the bike has a clear title to it, but then when we went to register it, it turned out to be salvage. anyone have any suggestion on what my friend and i can do about this?[:@]
wack!!! sorry but your friend was given the old title document. he got hosed! not you be an ***, but your friend should have done the research on the bike before buying it. he should have called the dmv and found out if the title that he was going to be given after the purchase is the most current document for that vehicle.

he failed to do the leg work and he got played. he can still get his money back from the dude. either by trading back or by a civil suit.
in this case whether it was sold "as is" is irrelevant. since your friend was given an outdated certificate while he was under a different pretence, he can legally hold the previous owner accountable for falsely presenting the product.
however, if the previous owner wrote that the bike is of a rebuild/restored condition in the bill of sale then your friend does not have a case against.
edit:
spelling boo boo
