Red Ring of Death
When you send you 360 to Texas for repairs they're not sending you yours back, you just get another refurbished one, hence the reason they tell you to take any games out of it and to take off the faceplate. With the high failure rate of 360s I highly recommend that you buy them from a place like Bestbuy and purchase the in-store warranty there. Ive had the RROD twice in the last year and a half, took it back to Bestbuy with the receipt and they gave me a brand new one no questions asked, its a very good way to protect your investment.
Mine has broke 3 times. I am on my 4th. It becomes a big pain in the *** sending it back and waiting for another refurbished one. The third one i received only worked for about 15 minutes before the ring of death came up. I asked if they were doing anything to fix the problem and all they told me is that they were trying to upgrade there system so this stops happening. I cant stand waiting almost a whole month for the process to take place. They need a better system on getting it back to you quicker. It almost took mine 2 months the first time mine broke to recieve another. I know they have tons of them coming back and have to send more out but after your 3rd one breaks you dont care about any1 else.
Ok, to straighten it out, this is how they do it. If they can fix your Xbox they will, if not they will send you out a new one, possibly a refurb. If they replace your system you will know, it will come with a note saying, we replaced your system. blah blah something about re-registering the new serial number for you already. If you dont get a note, you have the same box. Check your serial to be sure. When they fix your system is when it takes longer, when they just send you another box it speeds up the return process.
I guess shipping times take forever, I have had 2 boxes replaced and both of them took less than a week; Granted, I live about 3 hours away from the MS facility. First box was not really broken, HDD was. They replaced the box, since I had the HDD. Sent out on Monday, returned Friday. Then, problems came back, since HDD was really bad. They replaced HDD, I had to pay for shipping on that since it was not under extended warranty. Then back in July I got RRoD. Sent out on Friday, came in next Thursday. Coincidentally I was out of town that whole week.

I am looking forward to just having one that works correctly. Mine would not play standing vertically and the tray would barely come out. It is getting fixed for free so I do not mind the wait.
****ers charged me 100 bucks to fix mine because it only had 1 red ring, not 3, both are classified on their website as a "general hardware failure." Mailed the empty box to the wrong address, so when I finally got the box I told them because I lived in a dorm maybe it was a little tricky? and to mail it to my home address, so they (supposedly) changed the address in the system, I even wrote the home address as the return address in sharpie. When the xbox is finally getting mailed out I checked the ups site to see when it was due, and low and behold they mailed it to the wrong address again, by this time I'm back home so the wrong address near my school is three hours away.
This is the first day that the xbox was in transit, and it was right after the commercials for ups starting going on air with the "sender intercept," where they call up and change the address or have it sent back to sender, whatever. They told me there's nothing they can do so I had to call UPS and explain the whole thing to them, wait for it to get to the ups facility near my school, and have them mail it back to another ups store by my house. I called up xbox cust service to see if they can at least cut my bill in half since it had been so long and repeated hassles, and they said no they can't do that but offered me viva pinata? instead. I told them no thanks next time I'll buy a refurb from ebay
