i go 140+ on the way to another town about 12 miles away from here because i accept the fact that if i hit anything at all its over..and no amount of gear is gonna save my **** from that..life is short..have fun with it, i could die tomorrow with the regret that i never got to top my bike outall of us here as riders accept the certain risk we take the moment we turn the key..people who tell us its a waste of time and life..have obviously never ridden a motorcycle.. its just as addicting as heroin.

let the falming begin.

You are correct saying you can die doing anything, but the numbers dont lie eaither. The fatality rate to accidents on motorcycles is higher than with cars. I don't have a car right now and I don't want one (unfortunately there is pressure from my parents to get one). I am fine with the risk I ride with, but I do always wear a helmet (NC law as well) and I am always watching other people more than they watch themselves sometimes.

THANK YOU ALL......... As for the risk of car or bike, it is about the same here. i say about to the local stats, Here there are a lot of fatalities on bikes, i know, yet its only a 1/3 more then cars. as for the girls, so right, just get 2 more, working on that. just pi$$ed i wasted that time on the other one and had time sucked out dealing with the stalker like activitys of the second. OH WELL live and learn. as for riding, yeah i'm gonna ride as much as possible, i'm going to go do that now. thanks for the support every one. oh 51 its cool, i think i need stats on this one, it kinda grounded me. thanks again.

"when it comes down to it at the end of your days, the real question is did you do the things that you always wanted to do and the things that you loved to do, or did you just take the safe route every chance you could and now regret not doing more? thats what its all really bout lil homie."

+ a million, Dizzie

I'd rather die doing what I love, than slowly by inches in an old age home, wondering "what if"

and there will always be other chics who will love you for who you are, not what you ride, or drive, or whatever. Stick with it......

I find you all to have a pretty interesting perspective.
"die doing what you love"

The point I'd like to make is, he who dies doing what he loves, still dies. I've got a lot of **** I plan on doing between now and when I'm that old guy in a nursing home. Surely you all realize exactly how many years you suspect it will be before you'd be in a nursing home, and to quip about dying doing what you love so prematurely tends to illustrate that you don't have too many other aspirations in life other than dying on a motorcycle. Beyond that, it is also selfish. It suggests that your existence holds no meaning to anyone else and that all those around you will go on living as though nothing happened because you "died doing what you love." Well congratulations man, you died "happy." But guess what, you're still dead.
Meanwhile friends and family have to live out the rest of their lives without you.

I'm not trying to inflame anything here, but I think somebody should at least introduce a counterpoint. My personal thoughts are, sure I'd like to die doing something I loved, but not prematurely. I'll wheel myself out of the nursing home and climb on the latest hydrogen powered honda and see where I end up.
But for all of you that say "die doing what you love," essentially willing to die for that ability to ride a motorcycle, I'm calling you out. Here's a hypothetical: If you found out that the next motorcycle ride you went on was going to be the end of you, are you going to take it?

Riding is a choice, and one that we all make if those around you do not agree with your choice. You should make a small effort to explain your feelings and reasoning if they can not respect that. Then distance yourself as much as possible.

Now to something that was brought up in this thread and this is a rant. Pre-warning

Someone mentioned taking the safest road and doing what you want to do absolutely nothing wrong with either one. But I think you must choose a balance of the two. There are consequences beyond losing your own life. There are others that you can injure or kill plowing a 400 pound plus bike at 100 mph++ into a automobile is like firing 500 rounds of armor piercing ammunition at a standard vehicle depending on where you hit it depends on what type of damages incurred most likely your asses dead but what about those you may kill or injure or **** the automobile. What if you forced down your best friend, because of your stupidity and the consequences of that. Going out in a Blaze of Glory Is the Same As Cannon Fodder and **** THAT so you should try to find a happy medium. And I'm going to put this out there in plain English. Anyone who runs 140 mph on average on the open highway where the posted speed limit is half that is a ****ING Idiot take it to the track or you could end up in the same predicament as this guy.

My wife doesn't like the idea of me riding either, but she knows it makes me happy, and that's why I love her.

My wife's dad died years ago on a Harley. It took me years to get her to come around to the fact that I was going to ride and it didn't matter who didn't like the idea. She now knows it makes me happy and I can even get her to come along with me once in a while. Just one reason I love her.
