Default Possible trade -- does this sound fair?

Someone we know locally is discussing a potential trade with Chris (NeonspeedRT) on his CBR900RR.

Chris' bike -- 1995 CBR900RR with polished frame and 1997 plastics on it... carbuerated, in great condition.

Bike he's considering - 2001 F4i -- fuel injected, about the same mileage as Chris' bike (about 16,000), bone stock, brand new Metzler M1 tires on it, showroom condition.

What do ya'll think of this trade? It this fair for both parties?

The guy who wants to trade it simply wants a larger displacement bike. *shrug*

Any comments? Suggestions?

I think that's a fair trade -- actually a little better than fair. He'll love the FI.

totally depends upon what the bike will be used for. for everyday street riding i would go with the added torque and lower redline 900. bigger bikes seem to be easier to ride because you are not constantly having to rev it and tap-dancing on the shifter. you can be a little lazy and lug it around without problems. if he wants something for the occasional trackday, then i would say go for the f4i. the lighter weight and more predictable power delivery (read: fuel injection) would be easier to ride faster on the track. it also comes down to ergonomics. the f4i is smaller and narrower than the 900 and therefore feels a little more cramped. the clip-ons seem lower and at more of an angle than the 900. could be just me but that's the sense that i get. but then again i've never owned either bike, just ridden them and i've definately spent more time on a 900 than a f4i. for an everyday bike, i would prefer the 900 over the f4i. another consideration is rider size. i'm a large guy (6'0 and 230 lbs) and the larger size of the 900 agrees with my size better than the f4i. one last thing. you know the history of the 900 and have gotten used to the glitches and such. even though it's older and not fuel injected, you know how it's been cared for. you cannot say that about a new-to-you used bike.

all my opinions of course.

Well I ended up not doing the trade. There was just something in the back of my mind telling me not to do it. The guy is nice enough, but he was coming across like a car salesman. He wanted to trade right then and there. He didn't even want to take my bike for a ride. It just put alittle bug in my head and I was like hmmmm. So I passed on the deal. Oh well. I love my 900RR anyways.
