cold start ticking sound, running scraping sound
1> I get a ticking at around 5 times/sec when I start the bike from cold. It lasts for around 10 seconds and varies with engine rpm. Then it's gone and returns only when I keep it off for a few hours at least. It's there at every cold start.
Any ideas? [&:]
2> I think unrelated: I get a periodic scraping sound whose frequency is related to bike speed. I'm getting this since adjusting my chain. I dont think the chain's too tight, it has a ~1 inch slack. Also I aligned the grooves on each side of the axle adjustment pieces so they align with the back of the swingarm, as said in the service manual... where could this be from? It doesnt seem to change if I press the brakes, so I doubt if it's from there...
Again... ideas?

RE: cold start ticking sound, running scraping sound
as for the ticking sound when you first start your bike from cold and it last for about 5 sec. and it varies with rpm that is your oil warming up. when your bike is cold and and oil isn't as runnie as it would be when it's warm it takes a sec. for you oil pump to pick up the oil so your valves chatter aka tap. nothing to worrry about it's normal on the bikes. hope that helps. but don't sweat that noise.

Thanks Fort Collins, I never had the noise before so I was wondering... maybe time to change oil... havent been able to check level like traitorhound said.
I'm not sure the scraping is the brakes, since it doesnt change at all when I press or release the brakes. There's brake sound and then the scraping at the same volume as before. If I'd had a tire hugger I'd have suspected that... would the chain scrape something due to pulling back the axle a few mm?

changed oil but the sound is still there it's for a much shorter duration (2-3secs) and a little softer, but it's there. Last couple of things I did to the bike was to tighten chain, put an adjustable bolt in the stock CCT and run BK injector cleaner through a couple tanks of gas.
Bike still pulls hard!
