POR-15...thoughts...
now i have heard of POR15 and seen it used a bunch when i had my jeep and was off-roading in a club...the product is slick and really works well to stop and prevent future rust as well as being relatively strong...
my question is this...they make a product called Hardnose Paint, now i am not looking for the posts saying "why would you bother, blah blah blah"....but i have been trying to find a durable hard finish for certain pieces of my bike that are silver....for example...on the rear axle...the nut on the one side is obviously metal in color...i would like to paint it black...but it has to be able to withstand rocks, salt, etc...as well as the torquing needed to put the axle back together....
POR15 has a rep for once it is on, it don't come off...it's not supposed to chip, scratch, etc....the hardnose paints are supposed to be even better because they are a 2-part system with a hardner so i would assume it's essentially like using an expoxy resin like coating on the metal....
now listen....i am not nuts and am not going to do crazy things....but examples are the rear susupension brackets would be a great place to use this stuff....would be bomb-proof and have a nice gloss appearance....there are numerous other places i could use it to...but i am just curious if anyone has had first hand experience with either POR15 or even the hardnose paints...
if so...exactly how durable are they do you think...strong enough to withstand a wrench, a screwdriver....
thoughts....
btw...i will post a picture of the rear sprocket hub that i painted and you will see that painting something makes a HUGE difference in a look...i am not insane...just picky...

RE: POR-15...thoughts...
We used it on a frame off truck restoration this last summer. POR-15 is very good stuff. I don't know about the other though. I'm not much into trucks, but it's my father-in-laws, so I got suckered in to working on it. I chipped the POR-15 once. I was mad and hit (hard too) the frame rail with the large box-end wrench (1.25") I was using. there's a little chip in it now, but there's also a dent!
I will for sure use POR-15 on any other project that needs a good anti-rust solution.
