I'm looking at buying a 2001 f4i with 25,000 miles clean title. No front fairings (has aftermarket headlight set up for streetfighter look) the speedo stays at zero but gauges work (thinking it could be vss), rode the bike the other day and everything else seems fine, no cct noises. Is $1,600 a good price? If so what should I do maintenance wise once I get it? Thanks for any and all help.

 

Price sounds fine. Typical tune up stuff after purchase.

 

Thats a great price. Whats wrong with it? Besides what you stated. You better inspect the frame real good (for cracks), sounds like its been stunted. As far as maintenance goes do EVERYthing. Oil change, plugs, filters (air, fuel), clean and lube the chain or replace it, brakes (pads AND fluid), tires, fork seals, clutch if its slippin, I'm sure someone will mention something that I'm forgetting. Good luck finding a good OEM upper fairing for a reasonable price, same for the headlight.

 

1600 seems like a really good price to me. are the rest of the fairings in good shape? if it is somethin you want then get is. as for maintenance its up to you. at 20,000 miles on my bike i did chain, sprockets, plugs, checked the valves, stuff like that

 

I've checked the frame components as much as I could didnt see any cracks, he said it was laid down and he didnt have the money for the new fairing. Doesnt have signs of beinig stunted. He originally wanted $2,300 but after dealing with him and a little time he agreed to sell it since he needed the money. I dont plan on getting fairings unless I come across a piece here and there on ebay for a decent price. Just looking for a reliable ride with some get up and go.

That actually looks kinda cool, I'm not a fan of the streetfighter but at least I know exactly what my bike would look like as one, since I have the same one only WITH fairings.

 

I would def prefer the fairings but this doesnt look bad for now.

 

I got one word for you for plastics. EBAY... Just keep an eye out for them, hell I saw a complete set of black and silver on there a few weeks ago that only had minor rash on one side and they were going for like 400 bucks.

it may be the truth, the tanks not smashed, and it doesnt look like it has been all scratched up on the tail and stuff.
is it a clear title?

if you think everything is fine as far as the frame and forks go, and there arent any major problems it sounds like a graet deal
