Peoples reaction to lane splitting.

RE: Peoples reaction to lane splitting.
yea, i just needed to vent a bit. on my way to school some dousche in a bmw did the old "i see you so im gonna try to make you crash" routine, almost making me hit a 18 wheeler. When i lane split I devote all my attention to what im doing and i dont mess around so I saw it coming and managed to get around the other lane, but it just pissed me off... and it was really really cold so that didn't help either.
i never really try to lane split to the front of a redlight, i dont know why, i guess i just dont think about it. i might have to start doing that

Take off their side view mirror next time. IDK how long motorcycle plate numbers are in yalls state but their long like trucks here. I'd never remember one if I only got a glance at it.

It's a self-righteous thing. The whole, no line jumpers at an amusement park. Why should someone get ahead of me, I've waited my turn. Would you jump to the front of a long line at the bank, supermarket or an amusement park ride? Actually the question would be, would you expect people to get pissed at you if you did? Considering that lane splitting is legal in what, one state? Unless you live in CA, then you are putting yourself at risk by breaking the law. Sure, you can be pissed. Sure you can get in an accident. But put yourself into the shoes of the driver. They don't see the potential for an accident or if they do, they think that you "deserved" it by butting in line. They don't know what it is like riding a bike and to be honest they are not jealous of you either. They only seeing that you are doing something "wrong" in their eyes (and possibly by the letter of the law) and they set out to make right. The same mentality might be if you saw someone getting beatup. Would you help or not? What if you saw a guy running a with a woman's purse. Would you help or not? Some people see "wrong doing" and they react to it. If you were in car, and you were stopped in a mile long back up, would you get upset if a car passed everyone on the shoulder to get ahead?

Now that I dont agree with woo. Lane splitting may be illegal or whatever, but bikes lane splitting doesn't harm anyone. If I'm first at a light on my CBR, I guarantee I'm not holding anyone up, because I'm through the light before they know it went green. People might see that as speeding, but its not, just accelerating quickly.

Interesting thoughts. I've only split lanes once, and that wasn't really splitting. I was tenth or eleventh in a line of cars stopped at a construction site. I took the opportunity to hop off and don my rain gear. As I was finishing one of the flaggers came by and told me to go up the shoulder to the front. I slapped on my helmet and did so. Holy cow, you'd thinkI just shot the Pope or something from the looks and hand signals thrown my way. When we hit pavement on the other end and got out from behind the escort vehicle I took off at a fair rate (twenty or so over), but withinfifteen ortwenty miles a guy in a pickup who'd been right behind me in line caught up and tailgated until he could get by, then settled down to the speed I was cruising. He must have really poured it on to catch me and get by, and it was pretty obvious that he was only interested in being ahead of me. It started raining shortly after, hard enough that once he was seven or eight car lengths ahead he was out of sight. Didn't see him again until the rain stopped thirty miles or so further down the road, and there he was, driving five under. When I pulled up behind him he sped up again. It must have enlarged his manhood tremendously to stay ahead of a bike.

Here in South Africa it is legal to lane split but you still get those idiots who move right to the center of the lane and beyond to deliberately prevent you from going through. I havn't personally had any cage driver try and knock me off my bike but i've had my fair share of idiots trying to block me. Most people when they see you just move to the side of the road.
The thing I find most irritating is when people drive slow in the fast lane and refuse to move to the slow lane even once they've seen you[:@]

if i see a dumbass trying to lane split while we are moving at a normal speed i will most certianly block him. If's he's dumb enought to do that, he is most likely not experienced and i do not want him next to me or infront of me.
I block riders trying to sneek up to the light too. Simply wait your turn like everybody else and don't try to complicate the situatuon.
