People are stupid.
I am finding that I like fantasy novels and sci fi TV shows. They provide a medium in which they can comment on different social issues, directly or indirectly. Sure, dragons and sorcery are not real, but that does not mean the moral of the story does not apply to real life.
Right now I`m reading the fifth book from Terry Goodkind`s "Sword of Truth" series (currently being made into an awful TV show "Legend of the Seeker").
The first book of the series is "Wizard`s First Rule." The truth of it is pretty damn scary.
Here is the Wiki Excerpt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizard%27s_Rule)
2nd Rule: "The greatest harm can result from the best intentions."
3rd Rule: "Passion rules reason."
4th Rule: "There is magic in sincere forgiveness, the magic to heal. In forgiveness you grant, but more so, in forgiveness you receive."
5th Rule: "Mind what people do, not only what they say, for deeds will betray a lie."
There are a few more...go to Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizard%27s_Rule) to read them in full.
EDIT: Apostrophe edits.

Wizard`s First Rule
[blockquote]"People are stupid. [...] They will believe a lie because they want to believe it`s true, or because they are afraid it might be true."
[/blockquote][align=right]Wizard`s First Rule: Chapter 36, Page #397, US Hard Cover (revealed by Zeddicus Zu`l Zorander).

Explanation by Zeddicus Zu`l Zorander:
"People are stupid; given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid, they will believe a lie because they want to believe it`s true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."
