ok this is crazy!!!
Yeah, the cops would likely write a ticket. I had to make a left turn on red recently, just couldn't set the sensors off. I couldn't even see any saw cuts or cameras... so I just went for it. One friend of mine was caught on doing the same, but the cop understood him and let go without even a warning. It always depends.
common sense plays a role, no cars coming, go...a cop wqatching you, dont go. ive had to change directions brief to get back on track, hang a right, u-turn, hang another right. urban bike rules here in jax, FL, but then again , we have such a problem with crime, that most cops arent concerned with bikes commuting, lane split, treating lights as stop signs, sounds like other states can be very strict. I think you have to shoot someone to get a cop involved here.lol
This should explain why the lights don't change and a car pulling up as soon as you get fed up and make a turn.

I was told in my MSF course to pull up on top of the octagon, covering as many of the sides as possible.. seems to work for me most of the time. Especially when riding with other bikes and the other person can cover either the other sensor (if there are more than one) or the other side of the one you're on.
