Default lost confidence yesterday

We were all set for three of us to go out for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon, myfirst real long ride in over a month. Well we were out for about an hour, wind from the north at a constant 20-25mph, and I realized that I didnt have it. I realize that I havent ridden at all in a month besides a couple of very short 10 minute rides, and working for 20 straight days, combined with being tired, I was trying to hold a line and I couldnt. I had to stop and think about WTF I was doing, and I came to the only conclusion I could: STOP. They looked at me like I was crazy and said we can take things slower, but I realized that I didnt have the mental ability to make myself a safe rider, so I told them to just go ahead without me. I didnt want to become one of the bugs upon my visor.

Takes a good rider to realize when it just isn't right. Now get out there and get back in the saddle when the conditions are right and kick butt.

Good for you, it is like that with anything, if you can't get your head in the game, you gotta take a step back.

Way to go, bro. Better to take a step back and live to ride another day. No sense messing yourself or your bike up.

Good man... that's a tough decision to make. It takes years of wisdom to get there, and I know you're as young as I am so I'm proud of you for making the right decision.

Congratulations, you shown you've matured as a rider, (Some riders never do). It also takes a big set to tell your riding buddies that your going to take it easy, believe me. To me, riding is picking your moments, enjoying the whole experience, not just well cooked corners & times between A & B. Good onya mate!

Thanks for the reassurance everyone. It was a hard call for me to make as we all like to think we are 10' tall and bullet-proof somedays. Telling my best friend that I didnt have what it took shocked him as I was the reason he even bought a new bike. I guess its also why I ride with older and more mature riders, they understand what its like more than a 19 year old on his first bike.

I think that I may try to push for a south dakota helmet law... maybe with any luck I can kill the sturgis rally?
