Craigslist or if you have one, your local motorcycle forum.

Know your size and scan religiously.

I know a few people here have recommended it for gear i've never used it myself - they don't sell Dainese or Shoei
motorcyclegear.com now; I've used them for all my gear needs and their customer service is top notch. It's sort of a pain if you need to return things, but no more than any other online retailer and they give you 110% back to cover your shipping costs. Just wait till it gets back before reordering to use the gift card.

You can ONLY choose a helmet by trying it on. Scorpion helmets, besides being very heavy, give me a wicked headache almost the instant I put them on. They're extremely round in profile, and my head just isn't that shape. They test out pretty well under the Sharp scheme (see SHARP Helmets - THE HELMET SAFETY SCHEME), though, so if they fit you properly, they're probably a great choice!

Don't buy a 'used' helmet.

I had a great experience buying my helmet from Competition Accessories (compacc.com). They did much better on price than their 'advertized' price for the helmet I bought. I bought one of the many brands that sets a minimum advertized price, but since I called them for help and advice instead of just buying off the site, they gave me a different, non-advertized price. I'd most certainly buy from them again.

Thats why all their stuff is one sale now. Too bad actually, some of their stuff wasn't too bad. Better ****** it up quick if you want any of it.. once it's gone it's gone.
This is good to know - guess i'm gonna order some more shift riding jeans then. Thanks for the heads up.

As for the girl, I ended up picking up a Scorpion EXO400 Paradise off ebay for $9.50 with $15.00 shipping. It was "new" from an actual motorsports store, just an outdated model. If it's crap it was only $25 wasted, im sure I can sell it for that. Also, she already has a leather jacket for now, it was just her helmet was like from the 80s

As for myself I am looking at a EXO 700 matte black for like $75 that was "worn twice with minor scratches".. awaiting more pictures...

Not sure if I should go with that and risk it or pay $200 for a new scorpion exo 700 in matte black
(I really like that matte black with silver mirror shield)

Anyone have advice?

Also, going to check out that MotorcycleGear.com now

Viewing Images For Scorpion EXO-700 Engine Helmet :: MotorcycleGear.com
that black exo 700 engine for $125 seems like a nice looking helmet for that price

now between that or the matte black "used" one lol, thanks for the heads up on that website!

For $200 you could get the new EXO 500. It has all the features of the EXO 1000.

Scorpion EXO-500 Helmet - Street Bike - Motorcycle Superstore

Comes in matte black as well.

Have exo 400 and it works great for me. It's lower series but very good quality.
I bought my stuffs from Motorcycle-superstore close out and streettrackracing. You can basically get some closeout items for dirt cheap price.

I also have an EXO 400, replacing my HJC. I think they still have a few for ~50 at motorcyclegear.com.
