Laser pointers and dogs...
we had and old golden retreiver when i was younger. my dad kept one of those keychain ones on his keys. ANYTIME that dog heard keys rattling she went BONKERS.
Now my wife has a cocker spaniel. he loves that thing too. in our old apartment our kitchen was long and narrow and id set up rolls of paper towels or something and go "bowling". that dog is an idiot.

I had a pug that loved to chase the spot... the funniest thing that ever happened was putting the spot on the back of a friends knee. 25 pounds of pug slammed into him and dropped like a sack of potatoes. I just about split my sides laughing.
Nah... I'd never waste a .05 bullet on a cat
To me, the difference between a cat and dog is this:
If you die alone in your house with a good dog, he will lay down beside you and die.
If you die alone with a good cat.... chances are.... it will eat your face off.
My dogs absolutely LOVE laser pointers, btw. You don't even have to rattle the keychain. If you put your hand in your pocket, they come running. Or if they hear the click of a button switch, they go nuts.
The golden retriever is much more aggressive with it. He'll chase it up the walls (but not into people).
The border collie likes to keep it in front of him, and points at it. If it gets too close to him, though, he'll snap at it....trying to catch it. Funny stuff.
The border also LOVES mirrors. He will sit and stare at himself in one forever. He will even sometimes look at the back of a mirror like "WTF?", then he'll look at you like "Are you gettin' all this? This mirror thing is crazy!!"
