Laser detector for my RR
I recieved my third speeding ticket in as many years on my RR today. All to the total of about $600 in fines. Not that I'm hauling that much *** (63 in a 45 today), it's just that as we all know a sportbike attracts attention from the man. I've never been pulled by a county man because they still run radar and they play hell picking me up, but the Florida Highway Patrol run state of the art lasers and the can nail my *** no problem. I'm now contiplating a new laser detector. Does anyone here run with one? I'd love to here some recommendations and some pics if possible.
I can guarantee you that no matter how much you spend you aren't going to be able to avoid getting shot with a laser before the detector pics it up... I'm not a cop. I actually don't really love the police. I am a consumer who has done lots of research.
yeah, i think with laser, its kinda hard to get around, once it is point at you, you are done....just a side note....63 in a 45 is 17mph over....not sure how it goes down there, but here in the north usally anything 10 mph over is pushing it....
yeah, laser detectors just tell you when it's too late. Laser beams are very concentrated and dectors can't pick them up when the cop is targeting nearby vehicles. With radar dectors, they can sense radar waves hundreds of yards away, regardless of the target.
HOWEVER
If you do get a laser detector, slow down as soon as it goes off. Cops sometimes won't pull you over if you slow down the second you're targeted. That's why they're there... to get people to slow down and drive safe.

Yea whats up all the laser detector does is tell you if he caught you or not once it picks it up you have already been caught. And i live here in orange park fl let me know if you are ever around Jax and want to ride some time or if you know of an good back roads uo thier.
FlyYou is correct...a radar detector shoots a wave at your vehicle...
K Band means that it's one that is always on, just reporting back to the officer with the speed of every vehicle that passes by. It is literally a huge band that is extremely easy to detect for even a cheap radar detector. X Band has the same size as K band but is one the officer has to actually click the radar to go off so if its just you and the officer, it's more difficult to detect. Ka band is much smaller and the officer has to click, so it's the most difficult to detect. The wave is only about 3 feet across at 100 yard or something like that, so you have to have an extremely sensitive radar to be good at picking up Ka band. Ka is the most popular for officers who don't want to get out of the car and point the laser gun. K band is what is most popular in po-dunk towns where there is not much funding for the new radars. It is also good at watching 2 lane traffic becuase the officer can just sit back and watch the gun without doing anything.
Laser is literally the size of a laser pointer you use for presentations. It is about the width of a quarter at 100 yards. Even the most sensitive laser detectors can only tell you that you've just been hit.

And sometimes you won't even pick up the laser because your windshield wiper is blocking the way or because they are aiming it where the detector can't see (like your door). Luckily around me they all use radar. Even in chicago, when i venture up there, its all radar (at least by what ive seen.)
