Kimbo Slice got smacked a little
I want Kimbo to succeed. The man is good for the sport if he is put against legit competition. He's in a bad spot though thanks to being in EliteXC. UFC is so dominant and do so well that Elite was trying to take a guy that was super well known on the internet and make him a marquee fighter immediately. That is immense pressure, and who is really going to turn down the money they offered him? Sure as hell not me. Hell, put 100g in my hands and I'll gladly let him pop me around.
What they misunderestimated (hah) about the MMA public is that it is fickle about MMA's general reputation. They (as well as myself) consider it a sport every bit as legit as boxing, football, etc. They should have put Kimbo in with similarly experienced (re: none) mma fighters and people would have tuned in just as much. Kimbo has made clear progress in his fighting in his few professional fights, but if he keeps being presented as the most badass man alive he's going to be kept in the position he's in. Put against cans and looked at as a joke to dedicated fans.
