Smacked a Mountain going 50+ Pics Inside.
So it was an 06 1000rr. 7000 miles in the 3 months Ive owned it. (Its my 3rd bike and 1st wreck I'm not just a tool who went out and bought a liter bike)
Was going up a mountain road for the second nearly consecutive time that day. (Buckhorn summit on Highway 299) 110 corners in 8 miles. Pre-Ran it to make sure it was clear of gravel etc. ran up and back took a break for some water and a snack at the bottom of the hill and BS'd with a friend. In the mean time a car evidently overheated pulled to the side of the road leaked antifreeze all over a 2 lane passing right on the apex of a left hand corner. When I saw it it was mostly dry and I was already comited to the corner. I thought Id be ok didn't chop throttle didn't move on the bike didn't touch the breaks. Nope, SMACK Im on my left side for about 45 feet and bike goes into the hill ahead of me. I hit my head and right shoulder rag dolled up the bank, back down the hill and into a drainage ditch.
Damage to me Fractured Spine (4-6 weeks recovery but I'm already out of the brace and walking around 10 days later) 1 Broken Rib, minor road rash and a really sore shoulder and neck.
No Cut frame sliders didnt bend or crack and I wend down on my left side HARD. All plastics, forks radiator etc etc etc. Heres some pics.
So Ive already looked everywhere and I can easily fix it for $2000.
IF the frame isnt bent....It looks perfect in every wan except I have no idea how to test to see if the top tube is bent back. Anybody have any clue???
Advice is totally appreciated.
Thanks,
Morgan

wow, glad to hear your still walking, spinal injuries scare the crap outta me.
did I see that picture correctly?, the left fork leg is broken in half, and the tripple tree is also broken in half? guages look like they may have also taken a beating.
I doubt it can be repaired for $2k in parts, from looking at the pictures, butif you do it yourself maybe. Depending on where you are at, you can take the bike to a racing shop and they can usually spec out the frame and tell you if its bent or not. If your not near any type of shop, I dont know

No full coverage...I have a lot of speeding tickets that make me uninsurable. The few places that would do full coverage wanted $6000 a year.
Im gonna hang the bike today but afer pulling some stuff off the frame really looks good.
Ill let ya know.

I wouldn't ride that again, even after all new parts. I'm sure the steering head took a major beating, especially the way the left fork snapped in half. Lots of stresses there.
If you want to do it right, rebuild using a brand new frame. You'll spend some bucks though. Either way, you'll take a big hit without the full coverage.
How fast were you going when it slid out? I'm guessing the bike went right into a rock face or something?

It hit a dirt bank, I was probably going 60 around a corner I can go 70 around I think the sign says 35...so hit the ground going 60 probably hit the hill 40-50 feet away still going 50ish, as did of course I.
Frame Man In sac is supposedly "the man" for fixing frames and thats only 2 hours away so Ill probably do that.

Wow. I've seen a few bikes go down on Buckhorn but none that bad. Mostly just scuffed fairings and such. I know what you mean about those rock faces on the side. The whole way up to the top the right is a mountain face and the left is a drop off of 300 feet. Can't beat the road though. Good sweeping corners and good pavement. Glad to see your ok. Well Mostly ok.
