How to tell if slice in tire is too deep
I got about a 10mm long slice in my rear tire. It is right near the center. It looks like a knife width (not even a millimeter). How can you tell how deep it is/if it's too deep? It's a battleaxe hypersport s20 that I bought last year and has some mileage left ( so a little pricey to just throw away). I don't want to risk a blowout either though. If I have to, I'll post a pic, but I would like to learn how to tell myself. Thanks guys.

That is what i mean. i can't tell if it is deeper than the tread. Here is a photo:

You will need to measure the depth. If you dont have a real gauge, use toothpick. Gently put it in the crack and mark it where it bottoms out, then compare it with the tread. The tires are pretty thin under the tread. The fact that it's not leaking air is a good sign. Put soapy water on it to be sure though.

thanks demon. I didnt even think about the soapy water check (duh). But, i havent really been paying attention to the air pressure since winter storage. It was fine all summer and i noticed that slice a while before summer ended so i assumed its ok. I can check valve clearances but couldnt think of a fix for this lol! This forum is awesome. It would be better to get rid of the ads and just take donations if that was possible. I would do it no question
