Shoplifting :-) hahaha
yer that one I could live with .. no problems..
Fellony ..yips!!
The law over in the US is not to be mucked with then if they call doing a little runner a fellony :-(
We would get at most " failing to stop " or maybe a form of resisting arrest if they had the lights and sirens going in close proximatey to you when you bolted...
5000 grand ..ouch!!
but I suppose if it keeps you out of the slammer ..its worth it ..
Me I am definately allergic to small rooms with bars :-)
good luck again my friend...

What I find actually nice about this thread is that nobody has bashed you for making a mistake. Hopefully it curbed you from considering the fight or flight thoughts. On the bright side, yes, a high priced suit will have far greater resources than the public defender. Remember, the public defender is their, payed by the local gov't to work with both, not only in your best interest. Now it's a money game.

I guess you didn't read the entire thread, thats not the trouble i'm in, i wouldn't be worried if it was. They are trying to smack me with a felony version of attempt to alude, i know its normally a 2nd degree misdemeanor....but i guess this was an exception. I'm trying to get my life together, working(about to be) two jobs, no time for nonesense, and getting a half decent lawyer to show that i'm not about the bull****. Thanks for the kind words everyone, just seems like i'm breaking down regardless, but i have to keep fighting no matter what, maybe the judge will see that

You won't go to jail on a first offense shoplifting.. my friend stole a pack of cigs and got 6 months probation. I know an older fellow who was a cleptomaniac and got caught stealing like 5 packs of baseball cards and only got probation (his first offense also). You go to jail for felonies, not for misdimeanors. Especially on a first-offense. I got in trouble for posession and only got a fine. I wouldn't sell your bike considering a lot of courts are willing to work with people who don't have money and they can accept payments. Although if you do get a big fine it won't be but a few hundred dollars.

lololol yeah I know some pretty shifty people.. well the only guy who I can actually relate to you about personally is my good friend who ran from the police then gave up and stopped because he thought he just couldn't get away with it. He was dating a lawyers daughter so he got free legal representation and ended up with a suspended license and $400 in fines I think.. that wasn't including what a lawyer would have cost if he had ended up in trouble. Did you eventually stop? a lot of law is bendable.. if you prove that you weren't doing everything with malice and you are a generally good person you will end up with consequences that reflect that. They aren't trying to get you in trouble for just doing it, they are going to try and give you the proper consequences for your actions. Every sentence has a maximum term but the maximum is meant for people who push the envelope. Like someone who has many prior convictions and committed many crimes at the same time.. If they drop a lot of charges and he pleads guilty to the one charge it might carry the maximum sentence. I've seen people that lawyer'ed up get evading charges dropped so keep your hopes up man. I know it's a mistake, but if you are a generally good person, which I'm getting the impression that you are, then you shouldn't have too much trouble in court. Just a suspended license and some fines at the worst hopefully. Maybe a bit of community service. I wouldn't stick with the lawyer that is trying to charge you $5000, forget that man.. but getting a cheaper lawyer wouldnt be a bad idea.
