Default I noticed something.

In the thread "Inspired by Jules" down in Sights and Sounds several people have posted pictures. In another thread in the CBR100F section pictures have been posted showing where various members ride.

Almost without exception the pictures posted, mine included, are of grand vistas. Does that perhaps say something about those who ride? Are we a group who disdain being closed in, who need far horizons? Personally I dislike fences and closed in places, preferring wide open spaces and long views.

That recalls to memory a college class in which a question designed to indicate personality was posed: "What does a highway mean to you?"

Answers all grouped around the concepts of 'transportation', 'convenience', 'ease of travel'. Except mine. I said 'freedom', an answer that was greeted with much comment and surprise.

How many of you would answer the same?

I think I would and have in one of my classes before.
I love the open road! You can go wherever you want to, and it's easy to get out of your head and just see life.

Every job I've ever worked involved being outside and constantly traveling, except for one, which was the one which made me realize I couldn't exist being boxed in all the time. +1 for freedom, or the illusion of it anyways keep on truckin

I'm with ya 100% D. Though I'm one of those fellas boxed in at work each day in an office building, I have a great view of the lake right against the window from my desk and a nice panoramic view toward the coast at the top of one of the tallest buildings downtown here. I get a beautiful view and I get to ride to work every day. Gotta love it! I ain't free, but I ain't opressed!! hehe

Just got a nice ride out through the Ocala national forest this weekend exploring known and unknown routes on fresh rubber and chain/sprockets... freedom!!

I'm absolutely with you on the road meaning freedom. When I was a little kid it seemed like every western was about some poor guy or family stuck in a miserable situation that was over his head. At that age (before motorcycles were even a thought) I always wondered "Why don't they just leave?" - "Get the heck out of there." - "Start walking." The next place is bound to be better.

I love road trips. Car or bike. And the car needs to be big, and an SUV. Hate airplanes - all couped up. Some folks are all about "are we there yet?" And I just like looking out the window and seeing the land.

Thanks for reminding me.
