I just picked this JVC Everio GZ-MG130 30GIG HDD for $399 canadian. I just got it this morning for the boxing day sale at future shop and save over $200. I have not had a chance to use it yet, but trust me when I say it will get use on the bike this summer. I have heard it is good. The first link you posted, someone left a review claiming it recorded like poo. Just do a product review on camcorders to help you make a choice.

That's a difficult question. Very similiar to asking what's the best motorcycle for me? Generally, Sony and Canon are going to give you better imaging quality. This will vary depending on what format and price range your in. If your thinking about motorcycle usage then you should go with a tape format like DV. HDD and mini DVD will have distortion from vibration. I would highly recommend comparing whatever you end up getting. If you can take images of something black and go with the camcorder with the darker black versus shades of gray. Take some images of print like on a sign or anything with straight lines and see if you notice any distortion.
Look at the images of both and have in mind that there is a difference and go with the one that has better picture quality. Hopefully it's a Sony or Canon.

I have a JVC as well, but if you're going to get something why not just upgrade to the new ones that record in High Def. $600+

Cuase I dont have anything that is HD and I can wait a year and prices will drop.

This just for chits and giggles. Something to use on my bike and I work on my vehicles so I can use this to show people things.

Neither. If you want something nice, simple and films in TRUE widescreen, get a Canon ZR series camera. They don't use the SD cards, but they do use the digital tapes, which is still the best method to film onto. The SD cards are great though, especially the 4GB ones being $45.00.

See if Canon has a camcorder that has tape and SD or just SD. Canon's are great, it's what I used to take all the pics of my bike, and I've never been disappointed.

Hey I just got a Sony Handycam DVD108 for Christmas! Drivers have been a PITA and I've only recently (two days ago) got them working.

Great camera and I've only had one other, a Handycam. It's a pricey camera for an amateur setup, and it's still pictures suck. Most camcorder stills are only like 640x460 or something crappy like that. Most people have nice digital cameras for that - and those are pretty cheap too, again, for decent amateur stuff.

I say don't let the still thing influence your decision, just get one. They're fun!
